Surfing is a sport that opens up a new sphere for the ones who take zeal in it, and it never lets you down. Once you are into it, there is no turning back. A 72-year-old surfer from England who admired the sport since his childhood and stepped into this arena in the mid-60s era is the synonym for surfing.
He is also known as the ‘Godfather’ of New England Surfing and the skate mafia. In 1971, he also opened his Waterbrothers surf shop which became popular due to his active participation in the surfing revolution. His leadership role in Ocean State’s surf and skate led to legalizing surfing in many areas. It also helped save the East Coast’s premiere big wave Ruggles from Harbor Developers. All this endowment in the sports of surfing and skateboarding will now be featured in a documentary to showcase his penchant for sports.
Water Brother: The Sid Abruzzi Story

Sid Abruzzi, 72, is the protagonist for many surfers in England, who evoked the penchant for surfing and skating in the locals. According to the Boston Globe Media Partners, Abruzzi is an East Coast surfing Hall of Famer, who will be getting his big screen closeup on 17th August. The documentary “Water Brother: The Sid Abruzzi Story” is made by The Kinnane Brothers, who share a connection with surfing. The co-director Charles Kinnane’s father was a devoted surfer which inspired them to make this film which will be screened at Fort Adams at New Port.
Kinnane told the Globe that he once visited the Waterbrother shop when he was 15 years old and Abruzzi insisted him to have a surfboard. He revealed his motive to make this film and expressed his thoughts by saying, “All we wanted to do was capture the feeling he gives everybody — because so many people have been impacted by that feeling, that special way Sid has of taking care of everybody. Our only goal was to be a reflection, to hold up Sid’s incredible life.” Sid asserts that surfing may be his big love but skateboarding is close desire for him.
The surfing and skateboarding avidity of Abruzzi

Sid Abruzzi always admired surfing and soon began surfing at the age of 13 and he surfed the famous Little Compton since he was 16. Since then he adopted a penchant for surfing and surfed through the globe including the famous hotspot, Jeffery Bays. Sid says that surfing gives eternal freedom and immense joy that cannot be measured at a bar. In 1995, Abruzzi was a member of headquarters and helped in legalizing surfing in his local area when ESPN launched the X Games in his town.
Besides surfing, Abruzzi also takes great enthusiasm for skateboarding, he got his first homemade skateboard from his aunt. From clay and steel wheels to an Olympic sport, the evolution of skateboarding happened before his eyes. He also assisted in building the Skater Island Skate Park in Middletown, Rhode Island. Now, the skatepark landed a Tony Hawk Playstation 3 game.

Abruzzi is also focused on raising funds for a new public skatepark in Newport. And the Waterbrother, the brick-and-mortar store closed about a year ago. Now, Sid and his wife are planning to launch an online store. His 47-year-old wife, Dannielle Abruzzi said, “Sid’s got heart. Even though he’s this cool guy,” expressing her admiration for her husband.
