In the midst of grief and confusion, Israel Barona’s sister, Dominic Barona, penned a heartfelt note that could move even the toughest of hearts. Dominic Barona had just finished the 2023 Pan American Games on a high note and was looking forward to cheering for her brother as he dived for history-making. Although death has severed their mortal ties, their heartstrings remain conjoined as ever.

Surfing star Dominic Barona expresses fathomless grief

Dominic Barona has etched the title Olympian beside her name after representing Ecuador at the Olympics in 2020. It was a great honor for her to become the first athlete from the small nation to do so. She wanted the same for her brother, who also represents Ecuador in international surfing competitions. After the 34-year-old rising star passed away, Dominic Barona wrote a note as a tribute to him. Erick Mondragon who goes by ?amofilmar? on Instagram, joined his own words with the surfer?s tribute writing, ?Eternal waves for this great surfer @israel_barona It was a pleasure to meet you and watch you surf and enjoy this sport and life.”

Consoling Dominic, Mondragon further wrote, “@mimi_barona I have no words to express my condolences. I wish you and the entire family have resignation and peace in this very difficult time. A big hug. Rest in peace Israel?.

He posted a beautiful and heart-touching video of Israel Barona alongside those words. The video showed him full of life as he glided through the waves and attempted hair-raising feats. The surfing star was in El Salvador for a competition to get ready for the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, he ?suffered seizures while he was in a hotel in El Zonte, La Libertad?. Since his passing, the surfing world has extended condolences to the family.

The El Salvador National Civil Police tried to save him after he suffered sudden seizures. They brought him to the local hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead. The police found no foul play and ruled out homicide. However, the surfing world could not accept losing their star, who started making waves at the age of 10. After the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee broke the news of his death, messages started to flow in from all corners of the earth.
