Recently an incident of shark attack happened in West Australia. Fortunately, the victim survived the ordeal but it left him in a horrific condition. After the incident, the authorities are on high alert and the area of the attack has been closed. This is not the first time that shark attacks happened on the west coast of Australia.
Australia ranked second to the US in unprovoked shark attacks globally. To avoid such cases the government has an online service by the name Sharksmart, that provides the latest news to its providers about shark activity in the area and other safety information. The incident of the shark attack has created panic among the public with authorities advising them to be cautious.
Chilling shark attack in West Australia

Around 8:45 AM local time, a man in his 20s was boat ramp surfing along with others at a surfing spot near Gnarabup Beach in West Australia. He got attacked by the shark and bitten on his leg. The surfer somehow managed to paddle to the shore safely. A private vehicle took the man to Margaret River Hospital, where he received initial medical care. He was then transferred to Bunbury Hospital for further treatment. His condition is reported to be stable and he does not have any life-threatening injuries.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development said they think the great white shark was behind the attack. The spot of the incident is 280 km south of Perth. In view of the attack, the authorities have closed local beaches between Gas Bay and Margaret River Mouth.

In a statement, they said, “To ensure the safety of our community, please do not enter the water during this time“. The authorities also warned the public to take extra precautions in the Gnarabup and Prevelly areas. The Sharksmart notifications were offline due to a technical fault last week.
Incidents of Shark Attacks in West Australia
Australia is one of the shark attack-prone places. In the last two decades, at least twenty people have been killed due to shark attacks in West Australia. The last year alone witnessed twelve shark attack incidents in West Australian beaches like Fremantle’s Port Beach, Broome’s Cable Beach, and others. Earlier this month a spear fisherman was camping at Five Fingers Reef, near Coral Bay when he fought a shark attack. He survived the attack after shooting a spear in the shark’s eye. In April, a man in his 30s got attacked by a shark at Lucy’s Beach in Greater Geraldton, south of Perth. The man did not suffer any life-threatening injury and was stable. In February a 16-year-old get died when fatally mauled by a bull shark in the Swan River.
