‘’Wishing You a Speedy Recover’’: Surfing Icon ‘Crippled’ by a Horrifying Accident Receives Support From the Community

Maz Quinn, a renowned New Zealand surfer, has made a name for himself in the country’s surfing scene. Fans highly respect the 4-time winner of New Zealand’s national surfing championships. He also won the 1996 Billabong Pro-Junior Series. 

Quinn, however, recently faced a devastating accident during surfing at Mahia’s Northern Hawks beach. 

The surfing community rallies behind him. They offer him support and well-wishes through this difficult phase. Quinn, known as the surfing icon, shares details of the horrors he went through on social media.

The incident serves as a reminder of the risks and challenges that surfers face in pursuit of their passion.

Maz Quinn’s surfing accident left him hospitalized

The New Zealand surfer, Maz Quinn, took to Instagram to share the incident that occurred while he was surfing at Mahia. While surfing, Quinn falls on solid waves coming in, causing him to drive into rocky ledges at the bottom. 

Unfortunately, since it was the first wave of a set, no one witnessed the accident. But the waves washed Quinn away, enabling him to walk up the beach. Quinn crawled for 20 minutes because of intense pain. 

Fortunately, a man (Pat) saw him and came to his aid. The off-duty paramedic was a blessing. He was just nearby, in his car when the incident happened.

Initially, there were concerns about a potential pelvis injury, prompting a call for the Rescue Helicopter from Gisborne. Quinn spent the night in the ICU and is currently still there.

Further examination reveals that he suffers 4 broken ribs and multiple broken transverse processes, a type of spinal fracture.

Despite the ordeal, Quinn expresses gratitude to the people who helped him on-site, including the rescue helicopter. He is determined to get back to surfing his favorite wave as soon as he is able.

Surrounded by well-wishes and support, Maz Quinn receives heartfelt messages for a speedy recovery. They empathize with the pain, sharing their own experiences and offering encouragement.
