With over 72% of recorded attacks last year, shark attacks have become a huge concern for the United States. Recently, the list has added another serious shark attack case to it. A surfer, while riding the waves of a Florida beach, was attacked by the predatory beast and suffered serious injuries.
Chris Popisil, a 21-year-old college student was attacked by a shark. The water beast seized him by the feet and pulled him into the water at New Smyrna Beach, Florida. This beach has become infested by these beasts circling in the currents looking for prey. This time, however, the sharks exhibited an extreme predatory habit, as the 21-year-old sustained serious injuries and is still not completely out of the woods.

Pospisil, who incurred a serious injury by the beast, was immediately taken to a local hospital. The 21-year-old had to undergo a 4-hour surgery and is still under serious threat. Pospisil’s family, who first thought the injury was not that serious, later revealed the 21-year-old student has lost a lot of blood and damaged seven tendons in his feet. The surgeons even found the predators’ broken tooth pieces stuck in Pospissil’s bones.
Pospisil’s cousin set up a page on GoFundMe to raise money for Chris’ treatment he sustained serious injuries to his foot and needed emergency surgery that took a little over 4 hours. The surgeon said Chris had lost about 1 large Chick-fil-A-sized cup of blood, and he repaired 7 tendon fragments. The surgeon even found pieces of the shark’s tooth shattered and stuck in his bone. After the surgery of his horrifying incident at New Smyrna Beach, the surfer has been advised by his doctors to be off his feet for almost six months.

Horrifying attack at the Smyrana beach
On July 20, Chris Pospisil, an avid surfer, became a shark attack victim. He was enjoying the large waves at Smyrna Beach when the unfortunate incident happened. A shark ruthlessly pulled him under. Around 3 p.m., the University of Central Florida student was about to head back to the reef with his friend Reece Reddish when a shark came under Pospisil’s board and tipped the surfer backward into the water.The Shark grabbed onto Pospisil’s right leg, trying to drag him down into the depths of the water. Chris Pospisil told the media“The shark came from under me on my board and tipped me backwards and I fell. I saw my foot in his mouth.” The surfer was saved by his friend, Reece Reddish, who, after noticing him getting dragged by the predatory beast, quickly came to his rescue and dragged Pospisil by his shirt back on the board.

New Smyrna Beach, due to its high tides and waves, attracts many surfers; however, the beach is plagued with sharks, which pose a threat to the surfers all the time. As the sharks are usually found near the rising coastline of this beach, where surfers look forward to huge waves. The splashing of the water near the coastline provokes these beasts to attack the surfers. While riding high swells, some of the sharks also mistake these surfers for small fish. Also nicknamed the “Shark Capital of the World,” it has witnessed multiple shark attacks since 2010.
