People have been playing sports and games as a means of recreation and exercise for centuries. However, sports and games are demanding and may not allow everyone to participate. However, a noble organization took the onus of including everyone with a desire for surfing and teaching them how to do it.
‘Surf for All’ is a private organization that helps young kids with disabilities enjoy surfing. People with physical and mental challenges often feel that they have no purpose. Surf for All changes this thought and gives them precious moments to enjoy. The organization reminds these children that life is beautiful and worth living.

Professor Dumbledore from J.K Rowling’s legendary Harry Potter gifted the world with a precious dialogue. He believed that one can always find happiness, even in the darkest times, if one remembers to turn the lights on. The Surf for All body is doing exactly that and helping them by showing them the light. The organization specifically opens its arms to children who have cerebral palsy. A person acquires this disease by birth, affecting their movement, posture, and balance. Such children struggle with several basic tasks. However, Surf for All allows them to feel free and gives them the joy of surfing. The non-profit outfit operates in Long Beach, California.
The organization consists of several young and enthusiastic individuals. Each individual has taken a special training course from Skudin Surf’s program. The staff members help these young children learn the basics of surfing and assist them in the waters. The empowerment in an activity as complex as surfing helps these children put their worries and fears aside for some time. Several kids from the Hospital for Special Surgery in the area take surfing lessons from the passionate staff members. One of the kids attending the program said that surfing the waves blesses him with a “different kind of freedom.” These lessons fill the children, as well as the hospital staff, with extreme joy.

Tethering disadvantaged kids to happiness
Disabled children get constant reminders that they are different from others and not in a good way. However, bodies like Surf for All help them look beyond this mentality. “I’m nothing different than anybody else when I’m out there,” said one of the hospital patients. The hospital staff also remarked that Surf for All allows the children to do something extraordinary.

The Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon of the Hospital for Special Surgery, Jessica Heyer, said this greatly benefited the patients. She said this allows the children to be a kid for some time. Surfing the waters not only allows the children to unwind and enjoy, but it also helps them tether to something. Associating oneself with an activity one likes goes a long way in helping a person keep themselves mentally healthy.
