The NYPD reported a tragic incident that occurred in Brooklyn where one teenager lost their life and another was injured while subway surfing. The incident took place near the Bushwick Avenue-Aberdeen Street L train stop on Thursday afternoon. According to Gothamist the deceased teen, who had just graduated from junior high school, was found on top of the train. Mayor Eric Adams emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “It is not a game.”
The injured teenager was taken to Cohen’s Children’s Medical Center and is in serious but stable condition. Richard Davey, president of the New York City Transit Authority, appealed to parents, saying, “If you are a parent and you think your child is engaged in subway surfing, riding between cars, please tell them it is not a game.” Mayor Adams also called for social media platforms like TikTok to take action, stating, “I urge social media to become more socially responsible.” The incident caused delays for the L trains in both directions, as confirmed by the MTA.

Another 15-year-old boy in Queens had his arm severed when he fell onto the tracks while attempting to climb on top of an R train.
