San Diego Whale Watch on their Facebook page shared Naturalist Ryan and Vanessa’s adventure. “Another day full of cetaceans!” the couple exclaimed, recounting the experiences. “We had multiple blue whales on both our morning and afternoon trips,” they continued, highlighting the abundance of these magnificent creatures. The morning expedition also unveiled a delightful encounter with hundreds of long-beaked common dolphins and offshore bottlenose dolphins. As the day progressed, excitement peaked. “This afternoon nearly every whale lifted its flukes when it dove, and we found a cow/calf pair!” they shared, a heartwarming moment etched in their memories.

The sunset trip was beyond words. “We had at least 10+ blue whales in the area, but got great looks at 5 of them,” they exclaimed, amazed by the sight. “One Blue whale surfaced right next to us!” they added with awe. Observing the gentle giant at a mere 75 feet away, they watched in wonder as it dived, displaying two magnificent flukes. Just as they were about to conclude their adventure, a pod of around 200 Long-beaked Common dolphins appeared, racing and surfing in perfect synchrony.
