Hours After Suffering From a Horrifying Incident, Pro Surfer Restores Faith With a ‘Heartfelt’ Update

Maz Quinn, a celebrated surfer from New Zealand, recently experienced a terrifying incident. This accident left him severely injured. Known as one of the country’s finest wave riders. From winning the prestigious 1996 Billabong Pro-Junior Series to becoming the first New Zealander ever to qualify for the World Championship Tour. However, fate took a different turn during one fateful surfing session at Mahia in New Zealand. 

While maneuvering through the waves, Quinn encountered a devastating wipeout that sent him crashing onto the unforgiving rock ledge below. The severity of his injuries required immediate medical attention, and he was airlifted to the hospital. Merely hours after being airlifted to the hospital, Quinn took to social media to share a heartfelt message.

The 1996 Billabong Pro-Junior took to his Instagram story shortly after his wipeout to share his progress with his followers. Within a few hours of the incident, he posted a photo that showcased his resilience. In the picture, Quinn can be seen standing upright, aided by a walking frame as he takes his first steps towards recovery. His post also included a tag for Salt Shack Surf School, a renowned Sports & Recreation Venue. The overwhelming support he received from the surfing community played a vital role in his remarkable progress. 

It happened because of an incident that occurred while he was surfing at Mahia. During the session, he encountered a powerful wave that swept him off balance, causing him to collide with the unforgiving rocky ledges below. Regrettably, since it happened during the first wave of a set, there were no witnesses to the accident. What truly unfolded on that fateful beach?

Maz Quinn’s resilient spirit prevails amidst adversity

On 29th June, Quinn took to social media to share the details of his unfortunate incident. While riding a powerful wave at Mahia, he lost control and collided with the rocky ledge below, unseen by any witnesses due to it being the first wave of a set. The pain was excruciating as he struggled to make his way back to shore, crawling for 20 minutes until he received assistance. Fortunately, a helpful bystander and an off-duty paramedic came to his aid, ultimately leading to his rescue and subsequent treatment at the ICU.

The extent of his injuries included four broken ribs and multiple broken transverse processes in his spine.
