A channel of churning, choppy water is engulfing lives along the coastlines in the US. Home to many adrenaline-rushing activities like surfing and swimming the beaches are a perfect vacation spot for many. While visitors enjoy visiting popular beaches, the water may nonetheless be home to potent dangers which may claim one’s life. Despite the 130 rip current rescues in the past week, people continued to line up at the beach, which led to fatal accidents.
Just miles away from Carolina Beach, another heartbreaking incident made headlines when the drowning of two kids led to the lifesaver’s death. North Carolina’s most treasured destination turned into a grave for the unsung hero.
Man losses his life saves kids from drowning

This weekend on Saturday afternoon, an unnamed father from Lee County lost his life while attempting to retrieve children from the water near Fort Fisher. A boy and girl below the age of 20 were reportedly drowning in Kure Beach when the man jumped into rescue. A report by CBS17 released a statement from the officials who reported the time of the incident to be 2 p.m.
Jeffrey T. Owen, Fort Fisher State Recreation Area’s park superintendent, revealed that the drowned man was 58-years-old and that seven people in the surf needed to be rescued. The officials later shared that they discovered the man in an unconscious state. Despite their lifesaving efforts made both on land and in the water, he was pronounced dead. The identity of the name is kept from the public by the police.
The last update came from Owen about all the seven surfers being rescued and safe. Sadly, the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area is not patrolled. However, despite having lifeguards, the pedestrian beach saw extremely severe rip currents all day on Saturday. Officials said that more than 50 rescues were performed due to the water currents. Surfing remains off-limits due to weather conditions
Reports show 87 rip current rescues on Sunday, with 61 at Carolina Beach, 15 at Wrightsville Beach, and 11 at Kure Beach. While Southeast North Carolina and Northeast South Carolina possess a moderate danger of rip currents from Monday morning to evening.

Water sports require appropriate safety measures. The size of aquatic bodies should not be taken for granted as swimmers, divers, and surfers rekindle their interests.
