Professional surfing is an adrenaline-fueled sport. Nathan Florence, the younger brother of World Surf League champion John John Florence, is no stranger to death-defying waves. Born and brought up in Hawaii, Nate grew up in the heart of the mighty Pacific. The 29-year-old does not compete much professionally like his brother. Rather, he films his surfing worldwide with an intimate POV style for his YouTube channel.

Nathan is currently making videos for his Slab Tour series that have taken him all over the world from Mexico to Tahiti and finally, to Australia. It was during his latest stop that his group encountered massive waves that were violent enough to send his friend to the hospital.

Recently on his birthday, Nathan was in Tasmania, recording videos for his Slab Tour series. Nathan’s YouTube video opens up with passing cyclists and watching jets flying high in the air. The ultimate destination awaits the Hawaiian surfer. Nate Florence is famous for confronting and riding monstrous waves and the Slab Tour series exhibits just that – Florence and his friends, surfing gigantic waves all over the world. At the end of the video, Nate mentions that this was the “scariest day so far on the Slab Tour.”

The video shared on his YouTube channel gives us an insight into all the mayhem and carnage that followed in the vlog. While talking about the heaviest slab he ever surfed, Nate also mentioned, “Nobody expected it to be as thick and evil as it showed up to be. The feeling of danger and risk was extremely high the way it was funneling onto the reef!”

The wave in question was so strong that fellow surfer Dylan Longbottom ended up breaking four ribs and puncturing a lung as well. But according to Florence, “He casually cracked a beer, made no complaints, and stayed for another day to see his daughter get some bombs on day two.” Nathan once again proves to his audience that extraordinary moments of triumph are only achieved through inevitable brushes with danger.

The surfer concluded his video by showing his fan base a glimpse into his birthday celebrations. Epic views and a most fitting soundtrack made the whole video into a cinematic experience. At the end of the video, Nate made sure to thank his fans for watching and enjoying his video. It remains to be seen where Nathan’s Slab Tour series takes him next. The video also serves as a reminder that mother nature in her rawest form is not something that one can ever fully control.
