Laird Hamilton talked about life hacks

During an interview with the ‘Behind the Brand’ YouTube channel, Laird talked in detail about the training regimen that helps him maintain an elite level of fitness. “Can we talk about your training?” asked the host. He also mentioned how Laird looks “amazing,” even though he is well over 50. In response, Hamilton gave an insightful answer. “The way I approach my fitness is pretty all-inclusive,” said Laird.

“So it’s everything. It’s eating, hydration… the quality of my sleep. I mean, I’m always looking for ways to hack into my health,” Hamilton told the host. Additionally, he also clarified that he prefers not to use the term hack. He said that sometimes saying “hack” means getting something without having to work for it. However, there are “no shortcuts” in the 58-year-old’s way of life.

Laird said it’s about “task completion.” He explained his routine, which starts with him waking up at around 5:30 am. After waking up, the surfer hydrates himself because after sleeping for eight hours, the body needs to rehydrate. He then takes a shower and goes about his day. Laird is also mindful of what he eats. While his workout sessions are intense, the 6’3 phenom also doesn’t compromise with sleep.

The big-wave surfer’s intense diet

In an interview with Graham Bensinger that aired in 2018, Hamilton explained his diet. The surfer said that he eats a lot of fat. However, he doesn’t take much in carbohydrates. Laird explained to Bensinger fat is a “much denser” source of energy than carbohydrates, which the body digests quickly.
