She survived a shark attack at age 13, wrote about it in her autobiography, ‘Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board’, and it was later adapted into a 2011 motion picture of the same name. Bethany Hamilton went through a lot in her life. She lost her left arm during the vicious attack and drained around 60% of her blood. It seemed like the curtains were closing in on the surfing career of Bethany Hamilton. Nearly two decades later, the surfing sensation is all set to be a mother for the fourth time. She made the most out of her life since and is blessed with a wholesome family.

Bethany Hamilton recently took to her Instagram to announce the arrival of her fourth child in this world, in a rather jovial manner. The whole family, all five of them, were spending a day out on the beach, surfing in the warm waters. But she wrote, “We’ve got SIX of us on board” with a slew of emojis. A subtle hint at what’s to come.

Hamilton took to her Instagram to share the video of their entire family enjoying a beach day out. She wrote a large caption alongside, quoting Psalm 139:13-16 from the Bible. Hamilton, a devout Christian, quoted the Bible to allude to the fact that there is a wonder growing inside her, and that it is a gift from God. She has also previously attributed her strength to her Christian upbringing. She also came out of the horrific experience of the attack in a rather peaceful way, all attributed to her core strength.

Sharing her blessed feeling on embracing motherhood again, Hamilton also wrote, “8 years into motherhood, I’ve realized that I value my children more than I value “my” time. I value my family more than I value other things like certain types of wealth or success. I believe a joy-filled family is wealthy, and to know God, is the most beautiful and precious wealth of all”.

She also believes that while pursuing any path in life has its own worth, creating a family has its own rewards. Hamilton married youth minister Adam Dirks in 2013 on Kauia’s north shore. The 10-year-old married couple has three sons together – Tobias, Micah Ward, and Wesley Philip.

Hamilton and Dirks’ marriage has also found a place in the documentary ‘Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable’. The two met through mutual friends in 2012. After Hamilton’s first child was born in 2015, she managed to balance motherhood and surfing rather beautifully. Her ordeal with the shark at a young age didn’t inhibit the fearlessness she had in her. Today, three children later and with a fourth on the way, she still somehow manages to hit the waves.
