Surfing is a sport that possesses its beauty in unreserved things and those candid moments are manifested by some brilliant photographers. One of the greatest photographers who contributed to expanding this legacy of surfing photography is from the team of Surfer Magazine. Larry “Flame” Moore, was a pivotal figure in surfing photography and a prominent figure in the 80s, 90s, and 2000 which were high-water mark eras.

Larry was not only a photographic editor but he also created photography a viable occupation by inspiring young minds. However, after fighting cancer for 33 months, in October 2005, Larry bid his last goodbye to this transient world. His physical appearance is not here anymore in the earth but the eternal legacy will stay on forever. To celebrate the footprints of Larry, the grant photography program is organized annually every year with Following The Light Foundation.

Primarily, it is an honor to Larry and his penchant for surfing photography. In an old interview, he expressed his joy in doing what he loves and said, “I don’t think there’s any greater joy than to see your work in print. Then there was definitely a progression to finding the so-called ‘Larry Light,’ the front-lit, razor-sharp action photo. Instead of shooting into the sun, shooting with the sun at your back.” According to The Surf Magazine, the honorees’ list in the event includes some staunch photographers like Chris Burkard, Todd Glaser, Ray Collins, and Morgan Maassen. Last year’s winner of this program expressed his thoughts about The Light Surfing Photography and appreciated it for widening the opportunities.
