The most innovative wave pool in history will soon open in Abu Dhabi, putting an end to the rumors. The most advanced pool project has previously slid under the radar through multiple sources over the years. And having a renowned American surfer from Hawaii being a team player on the project, adds to its glory.
The development took half of Abu Dhabi’s island. A recent press release has shown promise when the news was made public about the surfing endeavor. The surfing fraternity remains the most thrilled about the UAE’s pairing with one of the best surfers in the world, still in his competitive spirits.
Mega surfing project co-powered by the surfing icon Kelly Slater

A press release by Modon Properties revealed the ‘Surf Abu Dhabi’ concept. The master plan promises a high-performance surfing experience with the “longest ride and largest barrel” in the world. Backed by American surfer Kelly Slater, Hudayriyat Island’s ideal site will undergo a major transformation. The cutting-edge technology attracts surfers from all over the world with its promise of the largest man-made pool waves. Google Maps already shows the project’s location for the pool.
Chairman of Modon Properties and the Abu Dhabi Department of Finance, Jassem Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, stated that “The Hudayriyat Island development project is a milestone in Abu Dhabi’s journey of innovation and progress, as it embodies the city’s futuristic vision for sustainable urban planning, building vibrant communities, and developing a diversified economy that boosts the emirate’s competitiveness in all fields.” If rumors are to be believed the features of the pool would be groundbreaking technology, with the wave height being above 8 feet.
Previously Kelly Slater Wave Co. made the world’s most powerful man-made waves at Slater’s Surf Ranch, a roughly 700-meter-long structure near Lemoore, California. With 56 Championship Tour titles, Slater has created history in the sport, and is now helping the superlative city gain international recognition in the surfing domain.

Waves to break out in the Middle East as innovation meets creativity
“Surfing reaches people in all corners of the globe, and I’m always surprised with who gravitates towards this world,” says the surfing champion. The city depends on his promise hoping the surfers will swarm to the ‘Surf Abu Dhabi’ wave pool in hordes. He goes on to describe the reality of experiencing a KSWC wave in Abu Dhabi, calling it “unbelievable“. When working on projects in Japan, Austin, the Coachella Valley, Queensland, and Florida, Kelly Slater Wave Co. faced several challenges. If critics are to be believed, the company’s rate-per-low-wave seemed to be a loss-oriented deal. However, the KSWC’s wave technology coupled with the high service demanding city project led to a flawless pair.

The urban development plan for Abu Dhabi is expected to cover 51 million square meters or just over half of the island of Hudayriyat. The developers assert creating a desirable living environment by following a contemporary paradigm of sustainability. According to Bill O’Regan, CEO of Modon, the facility will meet the demands of all surfers, from beginners to pros, in addition to hosting international surf contests at the biggest surfing hub. Slater’s surfing community is surely thrilled to enter the most hyped wave pool in history awaiting the literal big-wave reveal in December 2023.
