“Just Slapped the Shark Once”: 41-Year-Old Surfing Star Miraculously Escaped From the Jaws of Death Under the Most Bizarre Circumstances in 2022

It is not easy to understand the ocean’s way and, professional surfers are well aware of the dangers lurking beneath the deep blue tarmac. Whether it is the deadly man-eating predators or the vicious wipeouts, the sea has every threat hidden inside of it. However, the ones who love the sport of surfing dearly do not shy away to face the dangers the ocean induces. Likewise, a couple of months ago, an American surfer fell prey to the shark clutches but fought back with all his moxie to save himself from its ferocious jaws.

Last year, Long Island native, Shawn Donnelly was surfing at Smith point county Park in New York. And, was taken aback when suddenly a shark grabbed his foot. However, Shawn fought with the beast and swam back to the shore.

As per the report of the New York Post, in July 2022, the Mastic beach native was lying on his surfboard at Smith Point in Suffolk County. And, while padding into the ocean, the surfer got ambushed by the shark. Recalling the vicious attack, Shawn said, “I have never been more scared in my entire life…I screamed and flailed”.

Moreover, the shark bite induced panic and as a result, the surfer fell steeply “into the 7-foot-deep water roughly 40 feet from the shore”. And as per Donnelly’s revelations, the predator was the sand tiger shark. The sea beast even knocked Shawn off of his surfing board.

Interestingly, Shawn “just slapped the shark once”, jumped on his surfing board, and “paddled for the beach”. However, the predator was still beneath his surfing board. But, the surfer caught the next wave coming toward him and “fled for his life”. Once he got back to the shore, he noticed the injury on his leg and “saw blood dripping from a 2-inch gash on his leg”. Howbeit, he was taken to the nearby check-in facility, and they immediately transferred him to the hospital. 

Clearly, the whole incident may have turned into a fatal, life-threatening accident, if Shawn didn’t act up instantly on his coping mechanism.
