Professional photographer Brent Bielmann excels at capturing aesthetically pleasing waves and surfers. What makes this surfer so intriguing is the essence of his work. Born and raised in Hawaii on the North Shore of Oahu, Brent uses various platforms to express his appreciation of nature’s elements to the world. And now, he has caught the attention of one of the most popular free surfers out there.

Bielmann travels the world to take beautiful surf pictures. He recently appeared on “This is J.O.B. the Podcast,” where he discussed some of his favorite surfing and holiday destinations with Jamie O’Brien.

O’Brien recently invited Bielmann to his podcast, where the duo shared a joyful conversation. When asked “the best place he has traveled to for photography for surfing”, Bielmann was quick to respond, “I think Tahini is just incredible”. He accepted that he was fortunate to travel to many places and shared that a five-hour flight to Tahini saved him from exhaustion. He further added that it reminds him of his home in Hawaii, complimenting the water for being the clearest in the world.

The surfer then explained the beauty of the waves: “… for me, the style of the waves that they have there, like Teahupo’o, it’s just like you are so close to one of the heaviest waves in the world. It’s like watching the Super Bowl some days”. The two men continued to talk about fearing the boat’s propeller while shooting their videos.

The surf photographer laughs it off, recalling how difficult it was to find a boat for him to squeeze into while working. The challenging part, he says, was being in front of the engine and the props while swimming to capture it with a 50 mm lens. He opted to shoot wide-angle from a distance, to be safe. Bielmann stressed more on his fear of getting run over by a boat or engines jacking him up, than the natural elements.

O’Brien joked about there being no space in over 15 boats for him while recalling the chaos of surfers and photographers at Pipeline. Located just ten houses away from the photographer’s Hawaii home, Pipeline often witnessed the pecking order of the boats.
