A shark attack is not always probable during surfing or swimming. According to the reports, the death record by shark attack is very low however, 51 percent of surfers report witnessing a shark while surfing. And there are some specific areas, like Florida where shark attack fatalities are common.
New Smyrna Beach is one of the most dangerous sports for any water sports, reported by Fox Weather. Since 2010, the area has reported frequent surfing fatalities and shark attacks. It also has a record for frequent hurricanes in the region impacting the lives of many. Recently, a horrifying shark attack incident came to light when a surfer’s foot was caught by a shark and his friend took a daring move to save him.
A valorous move saved a friend from a chilling shark attack

On 20th July 2023, a terrifying incident took place in New Smyrna Beach when a 21-year-old was enjoying surfing with his friends without knowing the awaited horror. Chris Pospisil is currently pursuing a degree at the University of Central Florida. He had plans to join the Military but the brutal injuries sustained after the shark attack impacted the plans. According to the WION, Reece Reddish, a fellow surfer who is also Chris’s friend, brought him to the surface after noticing the horror. He instantly jumped into the water, swam to Chris and dragged him out of the water, and saved his life. Chris said he will always be grateful to his friend for saving his life.
Chris described the fuss and told Fox 35 Orlando, “The shark came from under me on my board and tipped me backward off my board, and I was falling backward. I saw my foot in his mouth, and it dragged me under.” He was surfing peacefully until a shark came beneath him and tipped his surfboard. Chris lost his balance and then the shark grabbed his foot with its terrifying jaw and took him below to the surface. However, Chris endured some serious injuries after the accident and some fragments of shark tooth were also found inserted in his bones which requires a prolonged recovery period.

The shark attack caused severe injuries to Chris Pospisil
Some fragments of shark tooth were found embedded in Chris’s bones which resulted in a long 4-hour long surgery to repair small arteries and seven tendons. His surgeon told everyone about the shark tooth fragments attached to Chris’s bones. Doctors have advised Chris to not work for at least 5-6 months and for the expense of his medical treatments, his cousin Ashley has set up a funding page called GoFundMe for fund assistance.

This is undoubtedly a horrifying accident but this could have been worse if Reece had not taken the daring move to save his friend. He rushed into the water swimming breathlessly to save his friend, somehow Reece got a hold of Chris’s shirt and dragged him over to his surfboard reaching the land and narrowly escaping a worse situation. But it did not cease their surfing zeal, according to the New York Post, Chris will be hitting the waves once he recovers from his injuries.
