The deep blue ocean indeed has many dangers lurking beneath its infinity. While some wave chasers make it safely to the shore, others face a darker fate. One such champion who was rescued from a ferocious shark attack is none other than, the 3x World surf league winner, Mick Fanning. While for many it takes years to recover from such a feral incident, the White Lightning handled the trauma in rather an intriguing way. Not just that, he even made a joke about his ferocious encounter with the shark in his recent endorsement.

The 41-year-old Australian surfer, famously known for his infamous brush with a shark in the 2015 J-Bay open has recently made a pun over his encounter with the predator. Other than having an elite vocation in surfing, the Australian is also the owner of ‘Balter Brewing Company’. Established in 2016, the beer company rose to prominence due to its iconic endorsements. Now once again, the new ad campaign for Fanning’s beer brand made headlines for more than one reason. First, the advertisement goes completely diverse by featuring every cultural group from Aussie society. Second, the musical theme the ad chose intrigued fans the most. However, it was Fanning’s joke about the shark attack that took the front seat.

The Balter Brewing Company recently launched a new campaign called ‘We Love Good Beer’ to celebrate the seventh anniversary of the XPA beer brand. Interestingly, all the Australian folks in the ad are singing in a pub and raising a toast with their beer mugs in their hand. The White Lightning also made a toast in the pub setting and took all the spotlight.

Along with the chorus, the Australian also sung the musical carol in the ad. The 41-year-old sings “And for every time I don’t see a shark at the beach”. Interestingly, Fanning’s quip does not end here. At the end of the ad, the 3x Word champion can be seen telling his fellow beer drinker, “I still love sharks”.

Though the surfing mishap that he almost fell prey to in South Africa was one heart-wrenching episode, Fanning made the whole fiasco sound like a jest. Nevertheless, the surfer chose a rather intriguing way to cope with the trauma, following the predator’s attack.

The White Lightning’s incredible coping mechanism following the near-death encounter

In order to heal from the scary surfing incident, the Australian decided to face his fears. To heal from the episode, the White Lightning got up close with sharks in a cage dive with National Geographic. “I didn’t know how I’d react once I saw the shark…but I needed to heal myself and see if I’ve gotten over the nightmares I’ve had”, added Fanning.
