“I Am Calling For TikTok Ban”: After Death of 14-Year-Old Boy Due to Sub-Way Surfing, Mayor Calls Out for a Big Action

Chasing adrenaline rush all while running on top of a train is something that has gained popularity in the past few years. Though it induces thrill, Subway surfing is one of the most dangerous activities out there and may lead to fatal accidents. According to NY Post reports, there were more than 100 cases of subway surfing in the initial two months of 2023. Along similar lines, on Thursday afternoon, a terrifying accident took place in Brooklyn, New York and left the community in absolute horror.

On 22nd June, two teenage subway surfers appeared in a dreadful situation after falling from the top of a Manhattan-bound L subway train while riding on it. The teens were knocked off when the train entered a tunnel, and they were later found underneath the northbound L train. Following this, families of the injured teens were interviewed by CBS as the clan was left devastated after learning about their children. One of the teen’s family and the New York City Mayor Eric Leroy Adams believes that the teens were influenced by social media, where Subway surfing is glorified by TikTok.

TikTok ban over the brutal incident of subway surfing

The subway riders claimed that they had witnessed subway surfers too often ever since the subways were constructed. Some of the passengers said that they watched the whole fiasco unfolding in front of them.

Following this incident, the parents and the New York mayor have blamed the social media platform TikTok for boosting the spirit of subway surfers. The CBS spoke with the teens’ family with the help of a translator, where the father stated when his son woke up in the hospital with a broken hip, he said his friends were there when he climbed over the subway, and they warned him to get down, but unfortunately, it was too late. The father of one of the teens said, “It seems social media has gotten ahold of it, and the kids have gotten a hold of it; I know as a parent, I’m concerned,” .

In the wake of the ferocious incident, Mayor Eric Adams took immediate action and declared for TikTok ban stating “I am calling today for TikTok to ban these videos immediately and take them down.” 

More so, the grim details of the incident left the family shocked after seeing their boys in such a heinous situation.

A horrific incident claimed the teen’s life.

Two fourteen years old, Windison Garcia and Brian Crespo, climbed on the top of the Manhattan subway when it was coming in the Bushwick Avenue-Aberdeen Street Station, and then they were fatally knocked off when the train got into a tunnel.  “His waist is broken, and he has like a lot of bruises and stitches all over his body,”-said Garcia’s cousin Erica after witnessing the brutal status of the teen. Erica also told the sources that Windison’s family did not know about his Subway surfing. The NYPD Chief of Transportation, Michael Kemper, said, “Both of them had serious trauma to their bodies, and tragically one of them was pronounced deceased” after the tragic teen subway accident.
