Several entities in the athletic realm ushered in the New Year in their sweet ways. On the other hand, some TV personalities had embarked on their 2024 journey by showing interest in various sporting activities, surfing being one of them. In the same vein, the 53-year-old Australian stand-up comedian, radio, and television presenter had stepped out for a fun NYE, which didn’t end up being so fun.
Dave Hughes, The Masked Singer Australia panelist, has had a terrific TV career. Starting his expedition as a standup comedian, Hughes received his first break on mainstream TV with Hey, Hey, It’s Saturday, almost like a dream-come-true moment for me. On New Year’s Eve, when his fellow media personalities were having a fun time, Dave Hughes’ uncalled-for accident shook the internet. After an unfortunate mishap, the Aussie star was rushed to the hospital, only to uncover that he had dislocated his shoulder. Resulting in nerve damage, Hughes’ agony knew no bounds.
He had said that it was the “worst pain” of his life. Soon after the lifeguards came to terms with the injury, they treated the 53-year-old with painkillers. But the latter’s words didn’t look like those pain relievers had worked their magic. The surfing enthusiast said, “Happy New Year. I had my least sober NYE in 30+ years. Green Whistle came after two hours of the worst pain of my life, plus morphine and the rest of them.”
He showed his comical attributes even when he was in utter pain. But on a serious note, he had heartfelt gratitude for the people who jumped to the rescue. She said, “Shout out to my wife, Surfers Paradise SLSC, and Gold Coast medical professionals for their much-needed help.” And his friends never left his side, too.
Hughes’ friends are lighthearted like him
One of his fellow comedians, Nikki Osborne, has said, “Oh god no! That’s horrendous. There’s going to be your long-held ambition to be the national chicken dance champion.”

Like Dave Hughes, like his friends. However, on a serious note, people often mistake his rugged looks for those of a drunkard. To clarify this, he had said, “I’d had nine hours of sleep. I haven’t had a drink since 1992.”
