Olympic surfer Kelly Slater‘s Mediterranean-style San Clemente estate holds a prominent place among his prized properties. Nestled just two doors down from President Nixon’s Western White House, it exudes a unique blend of luxury and historical allure. Now hitting the market for $55 million, this renowned estate gained further fame in 2008 as the venue featured a benefit hosted by the Kelly Slater Foundation. The event included a 90-minute performance by Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and attracted celebrities, pro surfers, and Slater’s close associates from the surfing community.
Over 700 attendees gathered, raising $350,000 for Surfrider’s Save Trestles campaign and MiOcean. Originally owned by Martin Colombatto, a former Broadcom Corp executive. The estate now stands as a testament to Slater’s legacy and philanthropic efforts. With Slater now seeking to part ways with the property, its listing price reaches into the multi-million-dollar range, reflecting its prestigious history and luxurious grandeur.
According to a recent listing on the Orange County Register, Kelly Slater’s house in San Clemente is up for grabs at a whopping aforementioned price. It sold in 2021 for $33.9M, making it one of the most expensive houses in that area. At nearly 13,000 sqft, it consists of a main house, as well as a casita, with 11 bathrooms and 7 bedrooms. It sits on a flat 2.6 acres bluff-top behind two big gates. It’s in the exclusive Cotton Point Estates community and is backed by 455 feet of beachfront. It looks out onto the Trestles surf break and also comes equipped with a pool, alongside an open-plan living area.

The primary suite also comes with an adjacent sitting room, a bathroom inspired by spa styles and a private terrace with soaring wood-beamed ceiling and stone walls. In terms of landscape, it features mature cypress trees. It also comes with an elevator, nine-car garage and a smart home system for maximum comfort. The reason for the 4x Laureus World Action Sportsperson’s decision to sell it is not apparent yet but one may speculate that it’s because he does not use the house often.
Alongside this property, Slater also put his Beachfront property in Oahu for sale. The house, which is located on the north shores of Hawaii, is listed at $20M. Slater had initially bought it at $7.8M in 2017. It’s a beautiful property sitting over a half-acre and is 7,680 sq ft of oceanfront compound. The main building consists of 6 bedrooms, 2 guest rooms and 7 baths. This isn’t the only property he owns in Hawaii. There is another which he usually puts out on rent. It seems that beyond surfing, Kelly Slater is quite interested in real estate. Especially if they’re beach houses near great surfing locations.

Founded in 2007 by Kelly Slater, the namesake foundation it works towards supporting existing environmental and sustainability charities. “I think there’s something there genetically with us—somehow engineered into the way we live our lives,” – quipped Kelly Slater once about the sustainability of the environment. One key initiative undertaken by them was the “10 for TEN” program that was in partnership with the Quicksilver Foundation. It celebrated Slayer’s tenth ASP World Surfing Championship and saw a donation of $100,000 to 10 NGOs of Slater’s choosing.
The NGOs included the Mauli Ola Foundation, Na Kalai Wa’ka Moku O Hawai’i, Kokua Hawai’i Foundation and Waves for Water. Additionally, it also collaborates with Slater’s sustainable clothing line Outerknown. It provides significant help to charities focusing on preserving the ocean, such as the Reef Check, which aims to protect underwater corals. Slater has bridged the gap between technical ingenuity of the sport of surfing to donning various overtures from entrepreneurship to whatnot. All hail Kelly Slater.
