In the world of surfing, Kelly Slater needs no introduction. The legendary surfer has won 11 World Surf League (WSL) titles. He has also won 55 event titles, making him the “GOAT” of surfing. He is the youngest and oldest surfer to win WSL. Currently, he is in his 50s but still dominates surfing.

Back in 2017, on The Dan Patrick Show, Kelly Slater was asked many questions. He was also asked how much he would charge to teach anyone to surf for an hour. The reply Slater gave would shock anyone.
Unbelievable but true
Dan Patrick was taken aback after learning about the rates that Kelly Slater would charge for a personal surfing lesson.

“How much would you charge to teach let’s say an hour of service,” Patrick asked, and Slater replied, “How much you got?” It looks like a pure business tactic for Slater in the way he answers the question. Although, Slater had other plans.
“Our guess would be $10,000 an hour?” said the person sitting next to them. Slater replied, “Actually I’m free I’m cheap.” Lessons from the world-renowned surfer were totally free of charge. Not even a single penny! Despite his popularity, the pro surfer doesn’t want to charge people if they wish to learn to surf from him.
Not only is it free, but Slater also provides beginner surfing tips. Truly a legend!

Beginner tips by Kelly Slater
Kelly Slater also talked about how beginner surfers make mistakes by choosing a small board at first to learn surfing. He recommended they use a big surfboard.

According to the pro surfer, building up confidence is the key to everything, which includes surfing, too. He also recommended starting a surfing session with a small wave and, time by time, getting better.
