The sport of surfing is a fascinating one, and the dangers associated with it never cease to exist. While rip tides, large waves, and wipeouts are frequent occurrences for any regular surfer, this particular surfer suffered a fate that was equally scary. At this 100-meter stretch of beach in north Oregon, a surfer was stuck after being swept out by presumably strong currents. He was eventually rescued by a Coast Guardsman.

An aircrew member from Air Station Astoria happened to find this surfer stranded on a pile of rocks. In a chilling video, the Coast Guardsman can be seen lowering himself and rescuing the surfer from there. It was a hurrah moment for their whole team.

It was a scary ordeal for the surfing enthusiast

The USCGPacificNorthwest let out a tweet from their official handle, sharing this cheery piece of news. While it must have been scary for the surfer to be stranded there all by himself, thanks to the concerned aircrew member, he is safe now. The tweet shared the video of the incident with a particular caption attached to it.

They wrote, “On Saturday, an Air Station Astoria aircrew rescued a surfer, who was swept out and stuck on the rocks at Short Beach in Tillamook, OR!“. The tweet continued to celebrate the rescue operation. It read, “Bravo Zulu to everyone involved, and thank you for your hard work and dedication!“. For the unversed, Bravo Zulu is a naval signal, which is usually conveyed over voice radio, and means ‘well done’.

The video, that showed the rescue, was chilling enough. The helicopter sighted the stranded man, and then the guardsman dropped from a major height into the water. The camera tilts and shakes for a bit, before one can see him reach the pile of rocks. The surfer, shivering with both cold and fear, reaches his rescuer, and is then taken to the shore.

To signal that everything is well, the Coast Guard member gives a bug thumps up to the helicopter. They even wave a big goodbye to the surfer before successfully dropping him off. Surfers often get stuck in the unlikeliest of places, such as these two surfers stuck in a rip tide at Montara State Beach recently. But it is a good sign that there is help available.
