“Can’t Wait to Meet Our Little Coconut”: Months After Major Career Setback, Pregnant American Surfer Shares Adorable Update on 4th Child

The poignant tale of Bethany Hamilton is one of the biggest comeback stories in the world of surfing. Her name has become synonymous with inspiration, hope, and perseverance. At the tender age of 13, Hamilton had to suffer through a horrendous tragedy. A 15-foot tiger shark bit off one of her arms, and Hamilton has been differently-abled since. Bethany Hamilton went back to the water weeks after her attack.

She was fearless and determined to get back on her feet. And so she did. In addition to getting back in the water, she also forged a career in surfing, and a successful one at that. Hamilton has always been revered in the surfing community for her prowess. While the sport might be the reason Hamilton survived, she has now built something to live on for her besides her beloved sport.

In 2013, Hamilton married Adam Dirks, a Kansas native who previously worked at the youth ministry and was also a substitute teacher. After they tied the knot, Hamilton and Dirk welcomed three kids into their family. Their first son, Tobias was born in 2015, Wesley in 2018, and  Micah born in 2021, just two years old. This beautiful family of five is now all set to welcome their sixth member. The newest addition to the family will be Bethany Hamilton and Adam Dirks’ fourth child. She recently shared an adorable update about the baby, which she posted on Instagram.

In the photo, she stood with her hand hovering over her baby bump, while her husband stood behind her, holding a coconut for comparison and embracing his wife. In the caption, Hamilton wrote, “Can’t wait to meet our little coconut 🥥 🌴🥰”. It is exciting and endearing to see someone who has faced much adversity, live such a fulfilling life. While the news is a happy one, Hamilton’s life has not all been a bed of roses in recent times.

At the heart of a controversy

Bethany Hamilton has the unique ability to paddle, spin and pop up, doing so with only one arm. Even as esteemed as she is, Hamilton has not been able to escape the jaws of public ire when it comes to voicing an opinion of hers. When she spoke against the Worl Surf’s League decision to allow transgender athletes to compete against women, Hamilton was not in favor.

She was not the only one, as World Champion Kelly Slater was of the opinion that transgender surfers deserve a category of their own. As Hamilton expressed her dissent, she was boycotted by the World Surf League, and condemned by some others as well. In spite of the backlash that she has faced, Hamilton seems to be the embodiment of the spirit of love right now, as she looks forward to meeting her baby soon.
