The world recognizes him as ‘The Ultimate Waterman’. Hawaiian surfing prodigy, Jamie O’Brien, earned his nickname not because he knows his way around the ocean but because of his prowess in chasing waves and reaching crests. He was just 20 when he clinched his first trophy at Hansen’s Pipeline Pro in 2003, and since then he has been unstoppable. Now, at 39, the surfer continues to chase the adrenaline rush and leaves no stone unturned while making torrents in the ocean. However, recently, the surfer’s path got hindered by a massive wipeout, and he ended up having brutal lacerations.

Being the son of a lifeguard has its own perks, and O’Brien has learned a hoard full of counsel about Pipeline from his father, Mick O’Brien. Owing to his fascination for the notorious pipeline wave, the 39-year-old surfer has a knack for trouncing the big barrel. He reached the pinnacle of the Banzai Pipeline countless times now. However, in his recent pursuit of chasing the barrel, the surfer got wiped out and got severely injured in the process.

However, he didn’t remember much about the incident as he got knocked unconscious in the middle of nowhere until his fellow surfers came to rescue him.

Nonetheless, the wipeout took a major toll on his facial and head muscles. “I almost died at Pipeline. My eyes are dilating, tripping out right now, and got a big gash in the head”, conceded the 39-year-old. Following this, the waterman got multiple staples on his head and was advised by the doctor to keep the wound dry for some days. Interestingly, O’Brien promised his fans that he would get back to water as soon as he would recover from the injury.
