The mother of a ninth-grader went “numb” after receiving a call from the NYPD in Queens who disclosed the news of her 14-year-old’s demise while “subway surfing,” reported the New York Post. On June 22, Javen Fraser, who had just finished high school at Northside Charter School, left home to perform his last jump. At the Rawson Street station, a mere dis-balance caused him to fall off a 7-train car at 33rd Street.
On the day of the incident, the deceased teen’s mother reported him missing after walking into an empty home from work. Later, she received a call from NYPD detectives asking her to report to the hospital. In an interview, she described the hardest moment of her life saying, “I hold his hand. I touch his feet. Everything is intact. I touch his legs. The only thing I didn’t do was touch his face because his face was swollen and very badly.” Fraser’s mother found herself in a state of helplessness at the moment, flooded with emotions.
The deceased was an aspiring engineer and volunteer in the NYPD Explorer youth program, who was about to take summer classes before starting 10th grade next school year. Days after the teenager’s tragic fate, left with his “bubbly” and “fun” memories, his mother takes action to create a safe space.
