US Women’s National Team star forward Megan Rapinoe attended the WNBA Seattle Storm versus Las Vegas Aces game on Sunday. Here, her fiancée Sue Bird played her final regular season home game at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
Bird’s introduction at the game saw her pass a tunnel with her friends and family, including fiancée Megan Rapinoe. However, Rapinoe’s schedule didn’t allow her to stay with the 41-year-old women’s basketball icon for too long.

Megan Rapinoe at Sue Bird’s last regular-season home game
Five-time Olympic women’s basketball champion Sue Bird spent her over two-decades-long career with the Seattle Storm. In her honor, an on-court tribute featured highlights from the Storm’s four WNBA championships before the game. The Mayor of Seattle even officially declared 7th August 2022 as Sue Bird Day.

Her introduction onto the court captured a good luck kiss between the soon-to-retire basketball player and her WNBA star fiancée Megan Rapinoe. The couple started dating in 2017, and after three years together, got engaged in 2020. And while Rapinoe was spotted taking pictures of her partner on the court like “a soccer mom”, she couldn’t stay at the game for very long.
As captain of OL Reign, Rapinoe had to be at the Lumen Field within hours for their match against the Houston Dash. And of course, at the 16th-minute mark in the game, Rapinoe scored her first goal of the year. Naturally, fans are more than ecstatic that her magnificent strike came on Sue Bird Day no less.
Fans react to Rapinoe netting the first goal
Megan Rapinoe won the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom last month. At the 2022 ESPY Awards, she won the Best Play honors. It’s been a good year for the OL Reign captain off-field and now, she scored her first goal of the year on Sue Bird Day.

While unfortunately both their teams lost the match, the day proved to show a lot of emotional significance for the couple. As Sue Bird stated once, they have put their wedding on hold until Rapinoe’s schedule clears, which they assume would be after the 2023 World Cup. The fans eagerly await what the future holds for the couple.
