You know exactly what time of the year this is in the women’s international soccer. Well, for those looking for clues, bother no more as we are talking about none other than the SheBelieves Cup. The 10th edition of a friendly tournament will again see the US Women’s National Team hosting top nations. This year, we’ll be witnessing the Stars and Stripes ft. ladies—#1 in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings—face Japan (#7), Australia (#15) and Colombia (#21).

Of course, the revered tournament will return to its traditional six-game, three-matchday format. Last year, it was adjusted to a four-game, two-date setup because of FIFA’s revised windows in Olympic years. Interestingly, the champion will once again be determined by total points—three for a win and one for a draw. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided based on overall goal difference, followed by total goals scored, head-to-head results, and, if necessary, Fair Play ranking.

Interestingly, Australia and Colombia participated in the SheBelieves Cup for the first time. On the contrary, Japan returns for the third consecutive year and the fifth time overall. Obviously, it’s the USWNT who became a dominant force in the tournament. They secured the last five titles and boast a total of seven championships. As for other victors, it’s only France and England that claimed the trophy in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

Notably, these sides took part in the 2024 Paris Olympics in which the USWNT had secured gold. The American ladies had defeated Australia (2-1) in group play and Japan (1-0) in an overtime thriller in the quarterfinal match. No wonder Emma Hayes, who is also preparing for her first-ever SheBelieves Cup, understands the intensity of the close matches this tournament delivers.

She previously noted that all participating teams are building toward qualification for the 2027 World Cup. As a result, she expects the competition to be just as challenging as always. “To get three games against talented teams and players in a format that replicates group play at a world championship is valuable in our process. All the games will be great tests for the teams and fun for all the fans,” Hayes said.

With these teams set to face off in the coming weeks, keeping an eye on the rosters will be essential. In the meantime, take a quick look at the schedule and broadcasting details:
