The San Diego Wave’s first victory in the NWSL came courtesy of two fantastic goals from Alex Morgan. She pulled the strings for her team, handing them their first win in the competition. They went against the other expansion team in Angel City FC and won the match 4-2. Having four points on the board, the San Diego Wave looks to challenge the leaders in their group.

The 2022 Challenge Cup saw two new teams added. Hence, these two teams have come to the forefront of the competition. The San Diego Wave FC plays in Division West. Although the team won the match, two fantastic goals by Morgan.
Alex Morgan grabs a brace on her debut for San Diego
As OL Reign is on top of the group with seven points, Morgan’s team lies in third place with four points. Despite that, grabbing a brace would have meant the world to her. She returned to her hometown, wanting to finish her career with this club. At a time when they didn’t click in the first two games, Morgan delivered a virtual treat for the fans in attendance. Her first goal saw her expressing her predatory instincts. After the ball ricocheted from the Angel City defender, she anticipated the rebound and delivered a great finish to the near post.

After giving the lead to her team just before halftime, she once again got into the act. This time it was not a straightforward finish. As the scores were tied 2-2 in the second half, the right-winger dropped in a glorious cross in the box as Morgan connected on the volley and send her team to the top, yet again. In a stunning performance, the game ended 4-2 as Morgan scored her first victory for the season.

As they played their first game at home, Morgan spoke about the energy of the crowd that led to the Wave claiming, a great victory. “I think we’re just feeding off of the crowd energy. And we didn’t get the result that we wanted last week. But we knew we had an opportunity this week to turn it around in front of a great crowd and we felt really good coming into this week. On week three, we wanted to get our first win in club history. And I feel like definitively we’re able to do that and show that on the field,” said Morgan.
