After exactly 38 days, the US Women’s National Team will spring back into action, their last time having gathered for the 2025 SheBelieves Cup. This time, the American ladies are hosting Brazil in an emphatic double-header clash. While the opening clash takes place at SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California, on Saturday, April 5, the return fixture is set to be played at PayPal Park, San Jose, California, on Tuesday, April 8. The last time the USWNT and Brazil squared off against each other was the 2024 Paris Olympics final on August 10.

Emma Hayes successfully opened her silverware account as an international manager by leading them to their fifth historic gold medal. They defeated the South American side with a narrow scoreline at Parc des Princes. Courtesy of the efforts of Mallory Swanson in what was her 100th game, Marta and Co. were forced to settle with a silver finish.

Further, before the Paris Olympics, they crossed paths with each other in the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup. That game also ended up in the USA’s favor as Lindsey Heaps’ header proved to be a boon. That only implies that the visitors are coming to exact revenge from the home side.

Then again, the hosts would look to lock in their record. More importantly, they themselves have a point to prove. Notably, the 4x World Champions are coming off a rather shocking 1-2 defeat to Japan at the SheBelieves Cup. While they did win 2-0 and 2-1 against Colombia and Australia respectively, a greater goal difference and a perfect 3/3 win helped Japan to make the winners toast.

Meanwhile, Brazil is returning to action almost after a gap of three months. The last time Marta and Co. gathered around for a doubleheader against Australia, in which they won 1-2 and 1-3, respectively. Meanwhile, before that and post-Olympics, they took part in another doubleheader against Colombia. While the opening game ended in a 1-1 draw, they eventually topped with a 3-1 win.

So it’s safe to say that Arthur Elias and Co. are in great form. But their form against the US is a matter of question, especially when we look at this in hindsight.

What’s your perspective on:

Will the USWNT bounce back from their SheBelieves Cup loss, or is Brazil ready for revenge?

USWNT vs Brazil: Head-to-head stats

The USA maintains an upper hand over Brazil, with a whopping 32 wins, including five draws, losing only thrice across all competitions. Interestingly, the upcoming two fixtures are going to be the 42nd and 43rd time respectively that would see either side lock horns, given the Summer Games finale that marked their 41st overall encounter.

Notably, in the Olympics, they have faced off more than three times. Their first meeting dates back to 20 years in Athens of 2004, which also marked Marta’s debut in the competition. She made an immediate impact, netting three goals and playing a key role in guiding her nation to the final against Team USA. However, it was the Americans who emerged victorious, securing a 2-1 win to claim their second gold medal.

Four years later, the two sides found themselves against each other in another Olympic final at Beijing 2008. Despite Brazil’s efforts, history repeated itself, as Marta and her team had to settle for silver once again following a narrow 1-0 defeat.
