“When you’re spotted running errands with your best friend,” read the caption of an Instagram post shared by Tobin Heath a couple of weeks ago. The former USWNT forward was seen leaning slightly as she appeared to be unloading items from the back of her classic ‘90s Range Rover. But what truly caught everyone’s attention was the sight of an adorable puppy peeking out from the trunk window—a.k.a. the “best friend”. While the post hinted that Heath had adopted a dog, very few knew the heartwarming story behind how it all came to be—until now. And trust us, even you’ll be left in stitches once you hear how her significant other, Christen Press, found out they were getting a dog!

Meet Bobbi, the newest addition to the Press-Heath family. While many of you might have already spotted the power couple’s furry companion through their recent social media posts, it’s worth noting that adopting a dog wasn’t something they had initially planned. In fact, you’d be surprised to learn the most unexpected part about owning a puppy — something both American veterans hadn’t even considered when they brought Bobbi home.

The revelation was made on the latest episode of the RE—INC podcast. Initially, both Press and Heath welcomed Bobbi into their lives as a foster dog. In fact, during the process, the current Angel City forward even bet seven of her friends that they wouldn’t end up joining the “foster fail” club. Christen, in particular, was confident, insisting, “No, Tobin and I are not like everybody. This is something that’s good for the world to foster.”

“I picked a dog that I thought we could never keep intentionally because she’s going to be quite big. I thought if I get a dog, that’s very mismatched to our life and lifestyle. We won’t be able to keep her,” further explained the 36-year-old forward. While one would expect the ACFC star to keep up her promise, Heath had other plans.

On the more hysterical side of the story, just a day before the couple decided to foster Bobbi, Tobin had been proudly telling her friends how happy she was to have no responsibilities and how she’d never get a dog — even joking about how lame she thought it was when people left parties early to rush home to their pets.

Seeing Tobin’s confidence only made Christen more certain that this wouldn’t turn into a “foster fail.” But little did she know, it would be Tobin’s soft side that would surprise them both in the end.

But, wait a minute! From proudly telling her own friends how “uncool” it was to not have responsibilities waiting at home, to now being smitten with Bobbi—how did the little pup manage to change her mind? Well, believe it or not, that’s just the magic of adorable pets—something even Heath herself would agree with. “She [Bobbi] really got me well,” remarked the former Manchester United star.

“What happened was these dogs, when you’re fostering, you have to bring them to adoption events. The weekend was coming up and Christen was like, ‘Oh, Bob has to go to an event this weekend.’ It was like puppy yoga. As soon as she said that, I was like, ‘Bob’s not going to an event,'” narrated Heath while laughing.

But it was more of Christen Press who went side-split while adding, “And that’s how I found out I was keeping Bob.” Way to go Heath! At least Bobbi was able to change her perception on having responsibilities. In fact, judging from these pictures that the couples have been posting with their new pet, it’s clear that they are having a lot more fun than one would expect them to.
