What makes soccer a beautiful game? Well, beyond the goals and the glory, it’s the passion of the supporters. Whether it’s travelling miles to watch an away game or staying up late just to catch their favorite players or team, these heartfelt stories are what make it truly special. For Kelly O’Hara, while her love for the game is undeniable, it sometimes clashes with her bedtime schedule! That, unfortunately, means she won’t be able to watch today’s USWNT vs. Japan SheBelieves Cup match.
Yep, that’s how much she is disciplined about her sleep schedule. Just now we were talking about ardent fans who sacrifice their sleep just to watch what they love. And then there’s O’Hara—who is probably sleeping at this very moment instead of cheering for her nation. But before you start questioning the veteran, hear out her side at least.
Kelley shared an Instagram story just an hour ago explaining her decision not to watch the game on her TV. She added a caption that read, “I love America’s girlies, but I also love my bedtime, and I appreciate everyone’s support in this decision.”

In the less-than-minute clip, O’Hara explained her dilemma, insisting how the late-scheduled game forced her to make this tough decision. “Alright all, here’s the deal,” she began in her sleepy face. “It’s… I can’t tell what time it is…8:45…I’m about to go to bed. I know the national team plays tonight. The girlies are on. They gotta cup to win because She Believed. But the game’s at 10 PM…that is beyond my bedtime.”

That’s not the end of it as Kelley even had a specific warning for her friends and close ones to not bother her with the outcome of the game. “Therefore, I don’t want calls, no texts, no nothing…nothing. Because I’m gonna wake up in the morning, I’m gonna watch the game with a cup of coffee and I wanna be surprised. So, I believe that we all win and I believe that I’ll see it in AM. Good luck to the girls,” concluded the 36-year-old.
Honestly, the way O’Hara was talking was a little bit hilarious. Yet, we are surprised how was she able to make this hard decision so easily—unlike others, who fervently came in support of their beloved national team!

While Kelley O’Hara sleeps, the numbers stack up in support of the USWNT
The majority of the USWNT fanbase has rallied behind the team, cheering them on with full support. In fact, the Snapdragon Stadium isn’t just packed with a regular crowd—some revered faces are also in attendance. Legendary figures Tobin Heath and a pregnant Alex Morgan are present in the upper stands, and accompanying Morgan is her adorable daughter, Charlie. All three are sitting together, enjoying the match.
It almost feels like O’Hara might be missing out on a lot. No wonder her former NWSL team, Gotham FC, took to X to make a hilarious comment, saying, “Someone wake @kelleymohara up, we actually need her here.” But where is O’Hara? Well, she’s staying true to her principles—listening to her body and prioritizing a well-rested night’s sleep.

That’s not all—another iconic duo, Sam Mewis and Ali Riley, may not be watching the game from the stadium, but they’ll be going live on The Women’s Game podcast to share their post-match reactions. Hysterically, the podcast’s X page even shared a meme captioned, “I’m working late, cause I’m a sportscaster,” referencing a lyric from Sabrina Carpenter’s song Espresso.
Clearly, everyone is excited to support the USWNT—everyone except Kelley O’Hara. We’re sure she gets live streaming in her dreams, we just hope she doesn’t end up with FOMO!
