The upcoming months have plenty in store for ardent women’s soccer fans. Starting on the domestic front, the 2025 NWSL campaign is just around the corner, with all clubs currently immersed in their pre-season preparations. Amid such a busy schedule, it’s unimaginable how remarkable off-pitch developments are unfolding. The latest one involves none other than Andi Sullivan—and it just might make your day!

That’s because the Washington Spirit midfielder is expecting a baby with her significant other, Drew Skundrich, who is also a professional soccer player for USL side Loudoun United. But what will truly leave everyone in awe is the reaction of Sullivan’s domestic teammates. A clip shared by the 2024 NWSL Championship runners-up on Instagram captured the moment Sullivan announced the news during a team meeting.

The room erupted with shouts and cheers as her teammates burst with excitement after learning that the midfielder is expecting. Some were left in sheer disbelief, while others were overwhelmed with happiness upon hearing the announcement. Meanwhile, Sullivan shed tears of joy. The American midfielder was unable to process the immense love and excitement she received after sharing this remarkable news.

Notably, the Stanford Cardinal alum also shared more details about her pregnancy in the clip. “I wanted to tell you guys because I thought you might notice that I’m starting to get a little fat!” Sullivan said with a chuckle. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native also revealed that she is expecting the baby to arrive in July.

The news was also revealed through an Instagram carousel post, where Sullivan shared a series of heartwarming photos. In the first image, Skundrich is seen holding sonogram pictures while their dog affectionately licks the USWNT star.

The second photo featured a hilarious Reddit question that read, “Am I ‘showing’ or just fat?” The final picture captured their pet resting its head on the 29-year-old’s stomach. And just in case you are wondering about the big question, the couple also unveiled the baby’s gender in the caption, writing, “Baby girl coming soon 💕.”

This is indeed one good news that is no less than music to the ears of many. Of course, it also means that Sullivan probably won’t be kicking a soccer ball for the time being, but it’s undoubtedly a wait that’s well worth it. But it’s not only her pregnancy that keeps her out for the time being.

The Spirit midfielder is also recovering from a torn ACL, an injury she sustained in October during Spirit’s game against Orlando Pride. Before that setback, she had started 21 of the Spirit’s 23 NWSL matches. The US star has been a key figure for the D.C.-based club since being selected as the first overall pick in the 2018 draft. This absence raises questions about how Jonathan Giraldez’s squad will cope—especially with a new season on the horizon.

Surely, the Spaniard will have to look at other alternatives. As for the USWNT roster, it surely looks sorted. Emma Hayes has certainly chosen a good pool of midfielders to face Japan and SheBelieves Cup debutants Colombia and Australia. The likes of Korbin Albert, Sam Coffey, and Lindsey Heaps (formerly Horan) are few to name. More on the list include debutant Claire Hutton, Jaedyn Shaw, and starlet Lily Yohannes.

This leaves little room for worry regarding the Stars and Stripes. And so for the time being, Sullivan can rest easy and concentrate on the little one and her injury as she cheers on her team as a fan. We wish her all the best for her new chapter and also hope that she makes a comeback to the soccer pitch soon.
