The year 2025 has been quite happening for Sophia Wilson on a personal front. Kicking off the month of January by finally tying the knot with her long-term boyfriend and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson, the new couple announced their pregnancy in the following month. While the whole baby-on-board feeling has kept both Sophia and Michael busy, there was still one major update they had yet to share—until now.
Well, for those wondering, it concerns the gender of the baby that the newlyweds never revealed. However, the latest social media activity of Wilson has the answer to everyone’s question. Wilson, née Smith, shared a carousel post on Instagram showcasing glimpses of how life has been for the Portland Thorns star. It included either posting her pregnancy progress or spending quality time with her loved ones and family.
The rest were some aesthetic clicks; like a comment from Wilson’s fellow USWNT teammate Alyssa Thompson sums it up: “The vibes of this post are so peaceful and perfect.” However, one specific picture showed a few baby dresses kept on a bed. Many of you might still fail to catch a hint about what the gender of their expected baby is until you look at the caption she wrote with the post, that read: “Filling the next months with lots of love while we wait for our baby girl to be here.”

Aw. Looks like the Wilsons are expecting a daughter, which is no less than exciting news for the growing family. Come to think of it, now the way Sophia revealed the gender of her soon-to-be-born girl with her words, we should have had a hint through her previous social media activity.
It dates back to the time she made the pregnancy announcement. “life just keeps getting sweeter,” she wrote while posing with the sonogram pictures with her significant other. Pardon us for the corny spot here; the pink rose was already a hint that we are expecting a mini Sophia.
Regardless, it is indeed quite a heartwarming update from the 2024 Olympic gold medalist. In fact, the reaction of not just her fans, but even her fellow teammates. Like Ashley Sanchez commenting “CANT WAIT. 🥹🤍,” or even Brianna Pinto adding, “She is going to be so loved.”
Indeed, she is. In fact, we bet that Sophia Wilson might even hope to see her upcoming baby girl follow in her footsteps and become a star soccer player like her. And with Wilson continuing to make frequent NWSL appearances, baby Wilson is already getting some in utero exposure to the sport!
Sophia Wilson remains in touch with soccer
Of course, given her pregnancy, it’s not like she’s kicking around soccer balls at the training ground. Rather, the 24-year-old has been making visits to the Portland Thorns’ stadium, Providence Park, to support her side. Her latest visit came during the recently held NWSL Matchday 3 clash against North Carolina Courage.

Glimpses were shared on socials that Sophia Wilson was seen coming into the dugout, both during the pre-match warm-up as well as at full time. Despite her big cheers from the stands, the Thorns were only able to end the game in a stalemate, settling with a single point.
Meanwhile, it was a similar tale in the previous game against Angel City on Matchday 2. Smith had again come to support her side at their home. She even marked the occasion by adding a story on her Instagram saying, “The best atmosphere. See you tonight Portland!”
Yet, that game also ended in a 1-1 draw. Speaking of which, consider it one of the early signs of how much the Thorns are missing Sophia Wilson at their attacking ranks. If she had been available, then her side certainly could have counted on her to change their ongoing struggles.

Not to mention their opening game ended up in a 3-1 defeat to KC Current. With two draws and a defeat, they sit in 11th place with only a couple of points. This is certainly not the start they were hoping for. Whether it’s due to the absence of Wilson or not, the talking point is that they eventually have to find their way to retain some balance. Otherwise, they will be in deep trouble.
