The National Women’s Soccer League seems to be under a heavy cloud of uncertainty. Throughout the offseason, there has been a series of exits from the American women’s domestic league, as talents signed deals with various foreign clubs. This exodus has cast the NWSL in a negative light, leading fans to question the future of the league. However, Trinity Rodman thinks otherwise and is insteadexcited‘ about what lies ahead.

Stars like Naomi Girma, Jenna Nighswonger, Kerolin, and Crystal Dunn are a few to abruptly leave the States in favor of some of the biggest clubs across Europe. Most believe that the reason behind talent being whisked away to European clubs is the disparity in remuneration and growth opportunities that the NWSL lacks to provide to their star players. This indirectly surrounds the fear of stars like Trinity herself being lured away from the league. But from the looks of it, the USWNT star seems focused on how she could make the most that she can with her teammates in the upcoming NWSL season.

“Just more growth, attack-minded, and the competition is just getting harder and harder,” admitted Rodman while speaking to The Mirror US. Despite witnessing the exit of crucial players, the 22-year-old is still emphasizing the league’s competitiveness. Well, there is no one better than her to realize this, considering how close she came to glory last year.

With 8 goals and 6 assists in over 26 matches, Trinity played a key role for the Spirit last season. However, the DC-based club faced misfortune in both their pursuits of the NWSL Shield and the NWSL Championship. They lost to Orlando Pride on both occasions by initially securing the second spot in the regular season by a deficit of four points, before being narrowly defeated in the finals.

No wonder the daughter of Dennis Rodman is backing the NWSL over raising its standards. In fact, from the looks of it, Trinity really seems to have figured out her plans for the 2025 campaign. “I think we’re getting great players in the league every single year, every single month. You never know what you’re going to get and I’m excited to see how competitive it is this year,” concluded the 2024 Olympic winner.

Clearly, Rodman has high hopes for the impending NWSL season that is kicking off on March 14. One shouldn’t be surprised to see the talented winger once again giving her all to lead her team to glory. After all, despite experiencing a tough heartbreak, she managed to take away a crucial lesson.

With the USWNT, Rodman was fortunate to secure a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, winning silverware on the domestic front proved elusive. Yet, the American starlet remains undeterred, instead calling it a year of learning. “I think to sum up last year, I would say a growth mindset and playing with confidence,” Rodman said.

Trinity grasped the skill of adapting and figuring out how to navigate the challenges around her. She also praised her teammates for constantly growing together game in, game out. Despite winning, the forward also insists that both Washington Spirit and the USWNT managed to maintain a balance between staying humble and remaining eager to learn.
