It looks like the documentary trend isn’t fading anytime soon, especially in the world of sports. When it comes to soccer, it’s no longer just the men’s game taking center stage—women’s soccer is getting its well-deserved spotlight too. Following the failure of Netflix’s Under Pressure, a docuseries dedicated to the USWNT, it’s now time for the country’s domestic league to step into the limelight. Get ready for a Prime Video exclusive this time, For the Win: NWSL.
The OTT platform has officially given the green light to showcase the 2024 season of the NWSL in a four-part docuseries that will chronicle the playoffs and Orlando’s run to the Championship trophy. According to Washington Spirit the upcoming show “will take fans behind the scenes of one of the most thrilling seasons in NWSL history, chronicling the intensity, resilience, and passion that define the league’s top teams and star players as they battle for the ultimate prize: the Championship trophy,”
Prime Video crews have been hard at work, trying to give fans an all-access pass to the world of top NWSL teams. So get ready for exclusive interviews, inside-the-locker-room action, and epic match highlights—everything you need to feel like part of the team!

Amazon also noted that “the documentary captures the nostalgia, emotion, and fierce competition that shapes a playoff run within the fastest-growing league in the world.” Given that the filming didn’t begin at the start of last season, the show primarily features moments from the NWSL playoffs and Championship matches.

Featuring in the documentary will also be iconic names like Alex Morgan and Orlando Pride star Marta. Additionally, rising talents such as Washington Spirit duo Trinity Rodman and Croix Bethune will be in the spotlight. All of such special mentions will be offering a deep dive into their lives both on and off the field.
With Marie Margolius in charge of direction and none other than Alex Morgan as one of its executive producers, Prime Video will be venturing into a territory quite successfully explored by its own All or Nothing projects covering a range of domestic teams in both soccer and football. However, the folks at Prime Video will perhaps also be looking to avoid disappointing fans like Netflix did not too long ago.
Prime Video’s NWSL documentary wouldn’t be hoping to emulate Netflix’s ‘Under Pressure’
On December 12, 2023, Netflix released Under Pressure. It was a four-part docuseries covering the USWNT’s 2023 World Cup campaign. Eventually, it was marketed as an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the team’s pursuit of a third consecutive title. Yet, the series ultimately left many dedicated fans disappointed. A point of criticism was its abrupt ending.“It felt like it ended very abruptly and the producers didn’t know what to do since they got eliminated so early,” wrote one fan on reddit.

The USWNT’s shocking Round of 16 exit to Sweden in a penalty shootout. Although it’s unlikely that the team did not prepare themselves for the US Women’s team not doing well, it seems like the fan did not like what they saw. Another fan thought it lacked depth and was meant for casual fans “who might stumble on it on Netflix and be willing to watch 4 episodes of a show that has some feel good stories about bubble players.” As it stands, the series is rated 6.1 on IMBD while it has received hardly any attention on Rotten Tomatoes. This isn’t surprising considering many fans found the focus on Kristie Mewis and Lynn Biyendolo was the only high point of the show for a lot of fans. Offering their two cents on the same, one fan wrote that ” it probably would have been completely pointless without them (Kristie and Lynn).”
Making fans feel the same with For the Win: NWSL will be the last thing Prime Video would want. However, the context here is different, so we believe Amazon has something better to offer. What do you think? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
