Breaking records seems to be just another day at the office for the National Women’s Soccer League. Hardly a moment passes without this American women’s domestic league witnessing a team or player etch a new milestone into the history books. The latest chapter could be written by Bay FC, as their impending clash with Trinity Rodman and the Washington Spirit puts them on track to surpass the Chicago Stars’ previous record.
Well, if you’re looking to block your calendars, then wait! That’s because the match we are talking about will take place exactly four months from today on August 23. The Washington Spirit will be traveling to face Bay FC but not in their regular home stadium called PayPal Park. Rather, this Matchday 17 fixture will be played at Oracle Park, which is the home of MLB’s San Francisco Giants.
As projected, conducting this game on the baseball-dedicated stadium would see Bay FC break the NWSL’s attendance record. To recall, it was set just last year by the Chicago Stars, ironically by hosting their regular season game against Bay FC at the Wrigley Field. Over 35,038 fans came to watch the clash at the home ballpark of Major League Baseball side Chicago Cubs.

Now, it looks like Bay FC will be doing the honors of wearing the crown of hosting the highest NWSL attendance along with the help of Washington Spirit. Both sides even marked the occasion along with NWSL, collaborating on an Instagram post that read, “Bay FC aiming for history,” while sharing the match details. It also had a caption saying, “An iconic setting for an incredible match-up. ⚽️⭐️🏟️”

Notably, the Chicago Stars itself claimed the NWSL single-match attendance record from Seattle Reign FC. The Washington-based club had previously set the mark on October 15, 2023. It was quite a special game as it marked USWNT legend Megan Rapinoe’s final regular-season home appearance, drawing 34,130 fans.
Similarly, within the first week of public ticket sales, the Red Stars surpassed their own previous attendance record of 17,338—set in July 2019, shortly after the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Either way, it is quite a remarkable feat that Bay FC will be achieving.
The good thing is that it will also feature a team like Washington Spirit as fans would be looking forward to catching up with players including Abby Dahlkemper, Racheal Kundananji, Trinity Rodman, and Croix Bethune. Speaking of Rodman, there might be a slight possibility she may end up missing the clash!

Fingers crossed to see Trinity Rodman play in the crucial Bay FC game!
The Washington Spirit announced that the estranged daughter of Dennis Rodman would be stepping away from soccer activities to address a persistent back injury. Her agent, Mike Senkowski, told The Washington Post earlier this week that she would be flying to London to consult with the Spirit’s doctor. At the same time, the club released a statement addressing the situation, saying, “Trinity is taking time away from team activities to manage her back. We look forward to her returning when she’s healthy,” as compiled by The Athletic.
Likewise, in the post-game of the Orlando Pride vs Spirit game, head coach Jonathan Giraldez was asked to share an update on his star forward. However, the Spanish tactician said it was “too soon to speak,” hoping to have an update on Trin as soon as possible.

Notably, Rodman has struggled with recurring back issues since her NWSL debut. The injury resurfaced after her standout performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She was forced to exit a regular season match in a wheelchair. Since then, the 22-year-old has had limited appearances for both club and country. In the recent doubleheader against Brazil, she marked her comeback with a goal just six minutes into the first match, which the U.S. won 2-0, before being sent home early ahead of the 2-1 loss in the second game.
Now that she has stepped away from all soccer-related activities, there’s growing concern about how long her recovery might take. While there’s still some time before the highly anticipated, record-breaking NWSL clash between Bay FC and the Washington Spirit kicks off, fans will be hoping Rodman is fit by then—because this is one game she surely won’t want to miss!
