The USWNT lost a prominent leader when Carli Lloyd retired from soccer. She graced the turf for her country like no one else. In an incredible turn of events, she dominated the game from start to finish, scoring goals and assisting others. But things changed for her as she could not come to terms with the changes in the dressing room.

In a recent interview with former USWNT player Hope Solo, she revealed some reasons for retiring soon from the sport she loved. She discussed many reasons and one of them surely came into the limelight, which concerned the future of the team.
Carli Lloyd reveals retirement reasons
Being a superstar player during her time, Lloyd won two Olympic gold medals, as well as, two World Cups. She could not score in her final match for her country, but the fans surely showed her appreciation for her service to the USWNT. But, during the interview with Hope Solo, not all that happened behind the scenes was up to the mark. She spoke about a change in culture that influenced her to make the decision.
“Even within our squad. The culture has changed. It was really tough and challenging to play these last several years. I mean, to be honest, I hated it. Wasn’t fun going in and it was only for the love of the game”.

“Really for me. That is, I wanted to win, and I wanted to help the team. The culture within the team was the worst I had ever seen it. So, I am hoping that the future is bright and things change,” said Lloyd.
After a golden generation for the team, Lloyd and company played some of the best soccer seen in women’s soccer. The USWNT, with Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe, achieved greatness. Hence, it is sad to see the legend going out for this reason.
Lloyd’s outstanding output
When she retired, she made 316 caps for the national team. Lloyd Scored 134 goals and provided 61 assists for the team. That’s the kind of influence she had on the team. Stats are important all the time, but the presence of leaders elevates teams during tough times.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics saw them winning the bronze medal but saw the team need rebuilding.
Gone are those days when the older generation helped the team to move forward. Lloyd, meanwhile, stated how the future of the team will be important as some new players are coming up to the team.
