“Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!” This was how Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis announced their pregnancy last November. It was a pure moment of joy, as devoted fans and their loved ones couldn’t stop showering the soccer couple with felicitations. But talk about life coming at you fast! The current situation has both Kerr and Mewis in the negative limelight. That’s because their ongoing court case has forced them to reveal some of the most delicate details one could imagine.
To break the ice, yes, this private information concerns the birth of their upcoming child. Well, it all began after Kerr, who appeared at Kingston Crown Court after being charged with racially abusing a police officer a couple of years ago, was asked how she met Mewis during her trial. Surprisingly, without any filter or giving a second thought, the Maltidas skipper replied, “She slid into my DMs.”
This response lightened the mood in the courtroom. It caused laughter in the public gallery, with the Australian international’s mother, father, and brother among the attendees. Meanwhile, Judge Peter Lodder had to ask for clarification on the meaning of the phrase, which he was told refers to directly messaging someone on social media.

But it doesn’t end here; Kerr further revealed her future plans with Mewis. In addition to announcing that they are set to marry this December, the Chelsea star shockingly disclosed that the couple is expecting a baby boy in May. While they had announced their pregnancy months ago, the couple had never commented on the gender of their child—until now, when the 31-year-old forward made it public during her trial.

For those unaware of their trial, it is being conducted for the events that transpired on January 30, 2023. Kerr and her girlfriend took a cab after failing to order an Uber. Both had been drinking at a friend’s party which saw Sam feeling sick and putting her head out of the window to vomit. However, the Australian star claimed the driver then rolled up the window and drove dangerously for 15-20 minutes, causing them to panic. Despite attempts to open the doors and windows, Mewis kicked out a window.
That only saw the driver make a detour at Twickenham police station, where Kerr allegedly became abusive towards police constable Stephen Lovell. The Blues star admitted in front of the jury that she called Lovell “stupid and white.” However, she denies the comments amount to the charge. Certainly, many may come to the support of Kerr and Mewis over the incident. However, what has actually sparked a row on social media is their decision not to do a gender reveal in the courtroom.
Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis slammed over their courtroom gender reveal
Interestingly, Sam Kerr’s sudden revelation regarding the birth of their upcoming child isn’t settling well with many. Ardent fans have taken over the X to slam the couple for their actions.
Though many would find Kerr’s comment on her first interaction with Mewis hilarious, this fan is more than impressed. In fact, the user wishes to have such confidence. But what this supporter does condemn is the court’s actions for taking things lightly: “Please grant me the confidence to slide into the DMs of an icon like Sam Kerr. Also; this trial is b**s**t and I hope the judge’s ignorance to this term is because of their single-focused commitment to justice.”
Echoing this user, another one is also perplexed over the court’s conduct. It seems the judge shouldn’t have even bothered questioning Sam Kerr about topics that aren’t related to their ongoing case. After all, the result is in front of you: “I’m so confused why this is relevant to this case.”

Alex Morgan recently revealed the gender of her second child adorably. Collaborating with a baby registry platform, showcasing those baby blue Nike Jordans at the end to reveal it’s a boy—talk about thinking out-of-the-box. While no one is asking the same of Kerr and Mewis, this user would have appreciated it if the couple had done so at least normally before even revealing such information publicly: “Okay but the gender being revealed so publicly kind of makes me sad that they wouldn’t do it themselves at there on accord and not in a courtroom.”
Well, even if Kerr and Mewis weren’t keen to do a gender reveal, they at least should have refrained from doing so in such a public setting. No wonder this fan expressed anger while taking a sarcastic dig at the soccer couple: “New gender reveal party option: the court of law.”

Then again, many are pointing fingers at the courtroom conduct. Even we fail to see how this information has something to do with their ongoing trial. Either way, the judge is the expert, yet this fan had to drop the F-bomb on the whole situation: “What the actual fuck is going on in this court now.”
This was just a glimpse of the reactions that you saw regarding this situation. But we are eager to know what’s your take on the same. Sound off in the comments.
