We may have just wrapped up January, but preparations for The Soccer Tournament (TST) are already in full swing. The annual 7v7 friendly competition, launched in the summer of 2023, will return for its third edition—bigger and better than ever. As excitement builds for the upcoming tournament, USWNT skipper Lindsey Horan remains eager to join the $1 million winner-takes-all event, urging Ali Krieger to make it happen.

Well, that’s just how remarkable this tournament is, that it even saw Horan expressing her wish to partake. It all started after the TST shared a crucial announcement on Instagram. They stated the 2025 edition will expand from 8 to 16 teams. This expanded format will allow for greater team and player participation.

It’s all thanks to the courtesy of RBC Wealth Management, named as the presenting sponsor of TST’s Women’s Event, and the official wealth management sponsor of the tournament. Interestingly, they shared this update by posting a picture of USA icons Ali Krieger and Heather O’Reilly, which caught Lindsey Horan’s eye. Without hesitation, the Lyon star tagged her former USWNT teammates and commented, “Can I play?”

It looks like Horan is eager to participate in The Soccer Tournament. However, whether she requests to play alongside Krieger and O’Reilly on the same team or merely hopes to join one of the newly added teams remains unclear. With the 2025 TST set to run from June 4-9 at WakeMed Soccer Park, the 30-year-old likely wouldn’t mind taking a week out of her off-season.

That’s because the tournament falls after she wraps up her domestic commitments for the 2024-25 calendar year. Nevertheless, now that she has vocally kept her wish in front of the world, one is desperate to know her ideal response to this request.

Lindsey Horan gets a cheeky response from Heather O’Reilly and TST over the latest request!

Notably, Horan’s comment caught the attention of Heather O’Reilly, who responded with an interesting reply. While the retired midfielder would love to welcome the USWNT skipper to the tournament, she insisted Horan first get approval from Jon Mugar. He’s the founder of TST and the basketball-based TBT.

“Heehee ask Joe! Tell him I will send you back to Lyon fit and happy and with some extra cash to take him out to lunch,” replied O’Reilly to Horan’s comment, jokingly asking for reassurance that the US midfielder wouldn’t be sent back to the French side for the new season as an injured player, considering she is still an active player.

If that’s not enough indication for Horan, she has to be convinced by TST’s reply. The Instagram page of the competition especially shared Lindsey’s comment alongside a caption that read, “LINDSEY HORAN WANTS TO PLAY👀. If the USWNT star calls… YOU GOTTA PICK UP!” Meanwhile, a reply from Ali Krieger is yet to be given.

Notably, last year saw US Women secure the million-dollar prize. They secured a 6-3 win in the finals against NC Courage. Both sides had come to the last stage by playing against Wrexham Women’s Red Dragons, and NWSL’s Angel City. They also competed against Streetball Canada, JJ Watt-owned Burnley FC women, and Soccerhead FC.

Horan should consider herself lucky if she gets a call-up. Especially given that they held a specific tournament for women in both the previous and current seasons. For those unaware, the inaugural TST featured only USWNT players competing against all men’s teams. Either way, it remains to be seen whether Lindsey will get the call-up.
