San Diego Wave were having their regular team meeting to discuss their ongoing NWSL season. All players sitting, facing a big TV screen watching their previous match. Toward the end of the brainstorming session, everyone seemed to be leaving until goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan stood up from her seat to come in front of everyone. One of the team’s assistant coaches addressed everyone that she has an announcement to make.
“Umm, pretty fun news,” begins Kailen Sheridan. “A lot of you know my wife Don and if you don’t you’ll soon. She’ll be around, make herself known soon.” At this point, guesses were locked in, but before one could have another moment to think, the Canadian international whiped out a small black baby suit in front of everyone, “But we wanted to announce that we’re pregnant.”
The whole room erupted with joy, cheering and clapping for their No. 1 goalie. Hysterically, Sheridan cut the celebratory noise by clarifying that the baby will be carried by her significant other and not by herself. Otherwise, San Diego would have lost their star No. 1 for a significant period of time. “It’s her, not mine,” she said jokingly, assuring she won’t be needing maternity leaves.

Further adding, Sheridan says, “We’re really excited to have a new teammate joining us this year.” Interestingly, the 29-year-old proceeded to showcase the front of the baby suit where the San Diego Wave was engraved in an adorable font. The whole room went in awe again as the TV then projected the picture of Kailen and her wife, Dominique Sheridan.

After the meeting ended, all the players stood up to personally greet the Pickering, Ontario native regarding the good news. In another side-splitting moment, forward Trinity Byars joked, “Maybe twins?” Without any hesitation, Sheridan laughed and said no while hugging her teammate.
Another lighthearted moment saw María Sánchez as one of the last players to hug her veteran teammate, with Kailen playfully adding, “New roommate?“ which made Sánchez burst into laughter. Overall, the entire San Diego Wave team left no stone unturned in celebrating and sharing their teammate’s heartwarming news. A similar reaction came from her national compatriots as well!

Heartwarming responses keep pouring in for NWSL star
Hours ago, Kailen Sheridan posted a reel on her Instagram, this time sharing a glimpse of how her Canadian national teammates reacted to her good news. The goalie can be seen speaking in a conference room with every member listening to her. “This has been my dream to be a part of this team, and you guys have been like sisters to me, my entire career. But I just wanted to let you know that you’re going to be aunties as well,” she said.
These words quickly made the whole room erupt with hooting. Everyone was clapping with Sheridan posing with a red baby suit this time, with Canada’s flag symbol at the front. Interestingly, while flipping the back of the shirt to show No. 1, she said, “We have a new goalkeeper.”

Hilariously, similar doubt was raised by her teammates about whether she was carrying the baby. However, the 29-year-old again clarified saying, “Dom is pregnant. I’m not pregnant,” even hiding her face from her hands on a picture that was being projected behind her in which she and her significant other were holding up a sonogram. Speaking of which, these special moments were shared by Kailen’s fiancée in a collaboration post. The couple had a dedicated photoshoot on the beach, captioning it, “Our greatest adventure is about to begin 🫶🏼.”
Notably, Dom and Kailen had been together for quite some time before getting engaged a couple of years ago. Just last summer, they made things official by tying the knot. Their baby, due in September 2025, will be growing up alongside two brothers, as the couple also shares two sons—and a pair of adorable dogs! Indeed, it’s quite heartwarming to see their family growing.
