It looks like the San Diego Wave is on a path to redemption. After enduring a poor campaign last season, the California side is looking to regain its dominance in the NWSL ahead of the 2025 campaign. And what better way stands than making necessary additions to the team? Keep the drums rolling as The Wave has acquired former Angel City goalkeeper DiDi Haracic.
Hailing more than a decade of experience in America’s domestic landscape, the Bosnian international who has been in the domestic setup since 2013 brings much-needed experience to the Waves’ goalie pool. The 32-year-old signed a deal until the end of this season and has joined the club as a free agent after spending three years with Angel City.
“Adding a player of Didi’s caliber brings a new level of depth and quality to our goalkeeper unit,” said Sporting Director and General Manager Camille Ashton on the signing of the former ACFC goalie. “Her experience will not only push our goalkeepers and provide healthy competition, but also strengthen the overall dynamic of our team. We are excited to welcome her to the Wave family.”

Consider these sentiments from Camille Ashton true, as Haracic’s qualities do back up this praise. The former Loyola University Maryland collegiate star surprisingly ranks among the top 10 in the NWSL for making a whopping 294 saves. During her tenure with the Los Angeles side, she established herself as the club’s all-time leader in appearances, with 62 matches and recorded 11 shutouts and 206 saves.
Before Angel City, she played 19 games for Gotham FC between 2019–2021, after spending a couple of seasons with Washington Spirit between 2017-2018, and played just 9 matches. During her collegiate days, the veteran was even named the 2012 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year, before breaking into the USL W-league a year later.
She further went on to play for D.C. United Women (2012-2013), and a season each for the Washington Spirit Reserves and Western New York Flash. Haracic also enjoyed a stint with Swedish side Krokom Dvärsätts IF. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has secured nine caps on the international front.

Indeed, Haracic’s career highlights are enough to give confidence to all the Wave supporters about how her time will be at the club. The NWSL veteran will face competition for the No. 1 spot from Kailen Sheridan and Hillary Beall. While it’s something that fans will look forward to seeing, we might as well talk about other talented arrivals at the Snapdragon Stadium.
San Diego looking to ace the 2025 NWSL season with significant additions!
The year began for San Diego with the welcoming of former Arsenal ladies’ head coach Jonas Eidevall. Who knew the ex-WSL boss would get straight to business as the former Gunners’ boss was able to get his hands on some new arrivals? Aside from signing 19-year-old Nigerian striker Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, the Waves also acquired midfielder Gia Corley from TSG Hoffenheim Frauen and another Nigerian and former ZHFK Lokomotiv Moskva midfielder Favour Emmanuel.

Likewise, an NCAA win with the University of North Carolina was enough for the 17-year-old defender Trinity Armstrong to come under the California-based club’s radar. Other signatures include UCLA defender Quincy McMahon and 18-year-old Colombian defender Sintia Cabezas, who, however, would be loaned back to her parent club and return to the Waves in 2026.
Notably, all these arrivals did come at the cost of losing out on players, including Jaedyn Shaw, Christen Westphal, and Emily van Egmond. Then again, it was necessary to do so, as we reckon this undoubtedly is the beginning of something new for the Waves. It remains to be seen how Jonas Eidevall and Co. kick off their 2025 season.
