The Chelsea star, who appeared at Kingston Crown Court after being charged with racially abusing a police officer two years ago, has been found not guilty. It’s undoubtedly great news for the forward. This also led her to share a heartfelt note expressing that she is only thinking about “getting back.”

Reflecting on the demanding days she’s now left behind her, Kerr took to Instagram stories to share a statement following the verdict. She expressed gratitude to her supporters, family, and closed ones for their unwavering support and stated that she can now finally focus on resuming her journey on the pitch. “Following today’s not guilty verdict, I can finally put this challenging period behind me,” she began.

The 31-year-old also condemned her own conduct during the events that landed her in this soup initially. “While I apologize for expressing myself poorly on what was a traumatic evening, I have always maintained that I did not intend to insult or harm anyone and I am thankful that the jury unanimously agreed.”

“I would like to thank my partner Kristie, my family, friends and all the fans for their love and support, especially those who attended court each day. I am fully focused on getting back on to the pitch and look forward to an exciting year ahead for me and my family,” she concluded.

What happened that fateful night?

Notably, the incident in question took place on January 30, 2023. After being unable to book an Uber, Kerr and her girlfriend, Kristie Mewis, opted for a cab following a night of drinking at a friend’s party. Feeling unwell, Kerr leaned out of the window to vomit. However, she later claimed that the driver rolled up the window and drove recklessly for 15–20 minutes. An incident that caused panic between the pair.

In an attempt to open the doors and windows, Mewis ended up kicking out a window. This prompted the driver to make a detour to Twickenham police station. There, Kerr allegedly directed abusive remarks toward police constable Stephen Lovell. While the Chelsea star admitted to calling Lovell “stupid and white” during the trial, she denied that her words constituted a criminal offense.

Many did come to the defense of Kerr and Mewis regarding the incident. However, a surprising courtroom moment sparked widespread debate within the soccer community.
