Once teammates, now siblings, Michael Phelps and Allison Schmitt, are a powerful testament to all that sports can give. The pro-American swimmers have just stuck by each other’s sides almost every time. Schmitt is not just a little sister to Phelps but also an aunt to his kids! It just makes everything so wholesome. Since their time at the University of Michigan, the Michigan Wolverines head coach, Bob Bowman, had trained her alongside Phelps. And now she trains his kids, it feels like their bond has come a full circle—from teammates in the pool to the family pool!
While Phelps and Schmitt are spotted alongside each other often, supporting each other and being there for the same has been the core of their beautiful bond. After all, their professional successes have hugely contributed to America. Phelps is a renowned name in swimming. Well, with 28 Olympic medals, out of which 23 are gold, he is bound to be the one dominating the sport. And then there’s his sister, who is no less than a champion herself—10 Olympic medals with four golds. Now, this is what you call a significant legacy!
While the nation sings lores of the SheBelieves Cup, the USA recorded another significant win against the Matildas, who lost 2-1. And guess what? Amidst all the cheering and support from the sidelines were these two legends supporting the USWNT—hyping up the fans! Post-match, the USWNT’s official Instagram handle dropped a video of an enthusiastic Schmitt beaming with pride as she cheered on for the USWNT ladies. She also went on to introduce another gold support, the Phelps company! The SheBelieves Cup seems to have had a far outreach this time around.

The caption of the post read, “From the pool to pitchside! 🏊♀️⚽️ Allison Schmitt and the Phelps family are shebelievin’ with us in Glendale!” The tournament seems to be offering some crazy moments. Perhaps the 2025 season is going to be a full-packed experience as legends from different sports come out in support of the much-deserved women’s soccer team!
Schmitt described the moment as “female athletes from another sport supporting female athletes of soccer.” Her attendance at the USWNT match just emphasized how women in sports, regardless of their discipline, uplift and support one another. “Hey guys, Allison Schmidt here. Female athletes supporting female athletes. Let’s go Team USA! And we brought the Phelps family along! Yay! Everyone, let’s go USA! Woo! Woo! Woo!”
And the USA went ahead with scoring two impressive goals by Lynn Biyendolo and Michelle Cooper! The first one came in just 42 seconds as soon as the match started, as Biyendolo was impatient to make a goal. And the second one? Well, it was after Australia’s Michelle Heyman’s goal, who took the stand to defend her team but couldn’t deliver a win! Cooper scored another one in the 68th minute for the Americans. The intense packed action was something that our swimmers enjoyed. But for Phelps, it meant more.

Michael Phelps – The US Soccer Enthusiast
For Phelps, the game holds a special significance. His presence was not just about supporting the game; rather, it was personal. Throwback to 2022, and we can safely say that it’s not his first rodeo. In fact, Oops, he did it again! Phelps sightings in international soccer games, especially for Team USA, have become a common occurrence. This time, it is the SheBelieves Cup. Rewind back to 2022? The FIFA World Cup!
Three years ago, when the whole world raved over the FIFA World Cup, Phelps too couldn’t escape from its fever. He got carried away, just like the rest, with a soft spot especially for the American side. When the United States National Men’s Team made it into the 16th round of the tournament, Phelps knew he had to be there—to cheer on the men playing the game with heart and soul; To just show up and support them! And he did this the Phelps way. Phelps showed his appreciation by reposting ESPN’s update back then as his Instagram story. “Let’s go!! 🇺🇲,” he wrote.
Phelps has a clear case of Soccer Fever! He didn’t miss out on supporting our superwomen this time. And he wasn’t alone! He brought his own cheer squad along. Moments like these reflect solidarity of athletes regardless of their sporting discipline. Clearly the American ladies are fending quite well for themselves, with sprinkles of motivation scattered generously. At this pace, we believe that they will clinch the SheBelieves Cup.
