Food for thought: Ever wondered why Wrexham AFC remains a global sensation in the soccer world? The fact that it doesn’t even compete in the top flight of English football makes it even more intriguing. Sure, having Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, or being documented by Disney+, are plus factors. But their real success story lies in how the club stays true to its local community. In that case, one shouldn’t be surprised to see NWSL side KC Current also following suit by seamlessly promoting local artists to celebrate Black History Month!

Teams around the world are searching for myriad ideas for getting in touch with the club’s fanbase. And we think the Kansas City-based women’s team nailed it with their latest gesture. Well, as you all are aware, February 1 marked the beginning of the Black History Month. It has been celebrated annually for decades to honor Black history, culture, and education. The way it has evolved and been observed over time has become a part of history itself.

Hence, in order to commemorate this whole month, The Current has notched a level up. They released a track titled We on the Way!, written and performed by KC’s hometown hero and artist, The Royal Chief. While unveiling the 1-minute, 15-second snippet of the song, the club announced that they are celebrating Black History Month in partnership with Bank of America’s Black Entrepreneurship Series.

Additionally, various Kansas City-based restaurant chains, including Kinship Cafe, Mattie’s Foods, and Bliss Books & Wine, will collaborate with the NWSL side. The city’s renowned entrepreneurship support group, Porter House, will also take part in the celebrations. Of course, all of these associations are chosen to highlight the businesses run by the people who hail from the black community.

Brilliant idea right? Well, you aren’t alone as many from the NWSL fanbase are also in awe of KC Current’s gesture toward observing black history month.

NWSL fans impressed with the Black History Month celebrations by KC Current!

Looks like being true to one’s community indeed pays off. Interestingly, after Kansas City Current shared this post on X, ardent fans couldn’t help but heap praise over the NWSL side’s efforts. Precisely, they are more thrilled to hear the beats by artist The Royal Chief himself.

This netizen always hoped rival side Angel City would be doing this stuff. However, the Willow Bay and Bob Iger-led sides are more focused on the business aspect. Luckily, KC Current jumped on such a trend and for this fan, it is the best thing that happened!

“This is the type of post I thought we’d be seeing all the time from Angel City when they joined 🤣 Instead, they became the business only marketers of the NWSL which bores fans. More teams need to embrace their local culture the way that KC does. Also, this is a legit 🔥 beat.”

Considering The Royal Chief curated this song at The Current’s request, just imagine if other Kansas-based sports franchises invited the city’s talented artists to collaborate in a similar way. Boy, oh boy, that’s something we aren’t ready for!

“At this point, we need the KC musicians to get together and produce an album for all KC teams.”

Talk about coincidences! This netizen, who also calls himself an artist, is literally writing music for KC Current. Even if this fan insists they aren’t as cool as The Royal Chief, we bet it’ll turn out just as great:

“Ohhhh m’gosh this is crazy I am a musician and I’ve been working on a KC Current hype song! (I am not cool nor am I a rapper, but I can write 😎)”

We wouldn’t be surprised to see that you’re still jamming on this masterpiece from The Royal Chief. Clearly, the KC homeboy has done a brilliant job. Looks like this netizen already has a grasp on some lyrics:

“Heyyyy 💃 KCBABYYY we on the wayyyy!!!!”

This isn’t the first time someone has created music for teams or even individual players. However, what The Royal Chief and KC Current have accomplished together is truly special. Beyond just praising their efforts to celebrate Black History Month and releasing this epic song, they certainly deserve a simple yet powerful gratitude:
