The 2025 NWSL season is just around the corner. All 14 clubs are back to square one as they look to make the most out of what comes ahead. In the midst of the preparation, each team has finally revealed their schedule for the season ahead. However, what may intrigue some is that the Chicago Stars’ season calendar seems to be missing a key venue detail—even though it hints to follow last year’s successful suit!
As witnessed on their season schedule and also mentioned by journalist Claire Watkins on X, not one but two home matches of Chicago Stars are apparently earmarked as “location TBA”. One of the fixtures is in June, while the other one is in September. Given that they were supposed to play on their home soil, Watkins claims that it has something to do with the ‘massive success’ Wrigley game last season and might be ‘finalizing a sequel.’
For those unaware, the 2024 season saw the Chicago Stars host the first-ever National Women’s Soccer League match at the home ground of their city’s MLB team, the Chicago Cubs, also known as the Friendly Confines, on Saturday, June 8, 2024, against Bay FC. It was actually a part of their campaign called ‘Red Stars Take Over Wrigley Field’. Additionally, it was also the first women’s sporting event held there in over 80 years.

Hearing this may compel anyone to ask why the Stars even decided to play in a venue that is home to a baseball ground. However, you may be surprised to know it turned out to be a great success. Interestingly, the Chicago Stars broke the NWSL attendance record with 35,038 fans in the stadium, even though the unfortunate turn of events saw them lose three points after they endured a 2-1 defeat to Bay FC.
For Chicago fans: Two home matches earmarked as “location TBA”, one in June and one in September. Obviously the Wrigley game last year was a massive success, wonder if they’re finalizing a sequel.

The attendance numbers they touched at the Wrigley Field were nothing compared to what they typically witness at their 28,000-seater SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. No wonder Chicago Stars president Karen Leetzow not only called this historic match a ‘momentous‘ occasion but also the ‘future of women’s professional soccer.’
“Chicago has truly shown the country what’s possible when we level the playing field with a centrally located stadium that is easy to access, and give these world-class athletes the support they deserve. Our club could not be prouder to call Chicago home,” admitted Leetzow following the tough defeat.

So can we expect a similar gig from the Stars? While we don’t know about that one, they certainly have dropped a massive hint for their ardent supporters!
Chicago Stars hints ‘special events’ planned for TBA venues for the 2025 NWSL season
While sharing the 2025 NWSL schedule on the club’s website, Chicago Stars did address the “Location TBA.” Interestingly, they wrote, “Following the success of the club’s match at Wrigley Field last season, the Chicago Stars are currently planning special events for June 14 and September 7 that the club will announce over the coming weeks.”

Clearly, the Illinois-based side seems thrilled to see how their idea of playing at the Wrigley Field proved favorable. So most likely, something similar may be witnessed in these two specific fixtures. In fact, who knows? It may turn out to be even something better, bigger for the fans. Whatever it may be, we shall wait for the time being.
