“It’s definitely hard when you’re doing it alone,” Alyssa Thompson once told GOAL exclusively, “but it’s so much easier when my sister gets to do it with me.” These words from the elder Thompson speak volumes about her bond with her younger sibling, Gisele. Sharing the pitch together, the two not only share the same blood that naturally connects them, but it seems the Angel City sisters are much more than that—so much so that their ‘insane‘ moment almost caught USWNT veterans off guard!

It all transpired in one of the latest episodes of the RE—INC podcast, hosted by Christen Press and Tobin Heath. The couple and former national teammates had invited both Alyssa and Gisele as guests on the show. Interestingly, during the segment, Heath might have asked the one question that led the sisters to share a unique telepathic moment! A glimpse of it was shared on X with the caption, “Sister Telepathy right before our very eyes 👀.”

Given that veteran Press is also a teammate of Alyssa and Gisele, Tobin quizzed them: “Who is more afraid of Christen?” Hearing the question, Alyssa quickly turned her head toward Gisele with a big smirk, causing the younger sister to burst into laughter. Seemingly confused yet intrigued, Heath remarked, “She [Alyssa] looks over accusingly,” before breaking into laughter.

But suddenly, there was an almost awkward silence, with the Thompson siblings exchanging subtle expressions. It was as if they were communicating everything without uttering a single word, relying solely on facial expressions. Witnessing this, Christen Press freaked out and exclaimed, “Oh my gosh, they’re speaking telepathically!”

The whole room erupted into excited laughter, with the 36-year-old ACFC veteran repeatedly saying, “Oh my god.” Likewise, Heath’s eyes widened with amused disbelief as she reacted, “That was freaking insane.” As the moment settled, the sisters still had to answer the question. Taking the initiative, Alyssa began, “I feel like…” But before she could finish her sentence, Gisele completed it for her, saying, “…me,” followed by a big laugh. Even Alyssa accepted her younger sister’s answer, hilariously responding, “Okay, yeah, Gisele.”

Gisele then imitated Alyssa by making a telepathic gesture, nodding her head and laughing as if to say, “Are you really gonna be like this?” The whole room was in stitches once again before the two sisters finally agreed—it was Gisele who was apparently more afraid of Christen. Honestly, this moment even left us amazed for a while. And to be fair, we’re not surprised that the younger Thompson feels a little intimidated by Press. After all, there’s almost a 17-year age gap between them, with the veteran being nearly twice the age of the 19-year-old.

It almost felt like the two had already had this conversation in private. And when they were confronted with the question on the podcast, both seemed awkward and hesitant to spill the beans. But, boy, it couldn’t have played out more hilariously! These two girls are undoubtedly entertaining—not just on the pitch but off it as well. No wonder Angel City had to retain them for the years ahead!

Gisele and Alyssa Thompson garnered interest from rival clubs

A month before the sisters shared a pitch on the international front in the 2025 SheBelieves Cup, they penned their respective contract extensions with Angel City. Both will now remain at the Los Angeles, California-based club until 2028. Given the talent and potential these two starlets possess, retaining them was simply the right move for ACFC. However, it was also done in fear of fending away the interest of rival NWSL clubs.

The revelation was made by the club’s technical director Mark Wilson recently. “We had a number of clubs reach out about Alyssa and Gisele. We had multiple concrete offers where we were told, ‘if we can’t get them permanently, can we get them on loan?’ That was confirmation of what we already knew.”

However, separating either of them was never an option for Angel City, leading the NWSL side to hand them over their respective long-term deals. “The question became, how could we get to work and make sure that they felt this is a place that was going to help them become the very best versions of themselves?”

During the opening 2025 NWSL game against the San Diego Wave, Alyssa netted a crucial goal to get her side a point. As the season goes ahead, let’s hope we get to see more from not just the elder one, but Gisele as well.
