It’s just a matter of days before the US Women’s National Team returns to action. The American ladies will continue with their 2027 World Cup preparations from the start of April. They will be taking part in a doubleheader friendly clash against Brazil. While there is no such update on the roster on who Emma Hayes will call up at her disposal, Alyssa Thompson has spilled the beans regarding her presence.

The curtains were lifted during today’s CONCACAF Nations League final between Mexico and Panama at the SoFI Stadium. Coincidentally, the USWNT plays their opening game against Brazil at the same pitch on April 5. That occasion saw Thompson being invited to the CBS Sports Golazo’s Attacking Third pre-game show. She had joined the panel alongside revered host Kate Abdo, French icon Thierry Henry, and Liga MX Femenil-based Juárez defender Janelly Farías.

Though the roster hasn’t had to be revealed by the USWNT before Tuesday, Thompson was subtly asked whether she had any potential knowledge she has about who will make the cut. In such cases, one would expect a player to give a diplomatic answer. But talk about losing composure as Thompson chuckled and replied, “I mean, I do know[the roster]…and I’m going.”

“Yeah…let’s go…” was the reaction of Abdo, Henry, and Farías as the 20-year-old somehow ended up revealing a piece of crucial information. Naturally, that saw the US Soccer release a video minutes later where Thompson was seen urging fans to buy their tickets for the opening friendly. “Hi, I’m Alyssa Thompson. I’m at SoFi Stadium right now. We play here on April 5 against Brazil. So go buy your tickets,” said the ACFC forward.

Meanwhile, the USWNT will play the return fixture on April 8 at PayPal Park in San Jose, California. In fact, their whole summer is set. After these two clashes, they will gear up for another doubleheader against China. The first match will take place at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The return game will be held at Energizer Park in St. Louis on Tuesday, June 3, where retired center-back Becky Sauerbrunn will be honored during the pre-game ceremony.

We wonder whether Thompson knows something about the roster for these two latter games as well. But coming back, talk about being a whistle-blower, eh Alyssa? Already, the rest of the roster details vs Brazil remain “redacted,” which will be revealed in a couple of days. Yet, she ended up letting the cat out of the bag. Then again, we can’t blame her; the winger was so caught up in the moment that she couldn’t contain her excitement and ended up revealing what you just heard.

But on the positive side, she has revealed her plans on how to keep her place in the team for the 2027 World Cup.

Set to be part of the April window, Alyssa was also called up for the 2025 SheBelieves Cup alongside her sister Gisele. Already having been snubbed from the 2024 Paris Olympics to miss out on the gold medal, she again failed on her chance to lift a silverware with her national team last month as the USWNT finished second behind Japan after a 2-0 defeat. But it seems the youngster has a fire for something bigger.

Outlining her plans to retain her place in the team for the 2027 World Cup, Thompson said, “I feel like continuing to focus on me, focusing on what I can do, on the field, and continuing to make myself feel that I have something different from all these other players that I’m kind of undeniable on the field and she can not pick me.”
