The USWNT proved successful in their quest against Brazil in their opening April window clash. Emma Hayes‘ side once again managed to dominate their 2024 Paris Olympic final rivals, securing an emphatic 2-0 win on Saturday. Apart from ending with a convincing victory for the USWNT in front of 32,303 fans, the first women’s sporting event in the SoFi stadium turned out to be a worthy trip for supporters who faced significant challenges to show up for the team. Especially for Christen Press, as the veteran made a dedicated “2-hour” drive just to say, “Go Alyssa Thompson!”

Of course, one can’t say that the 36-year-old came all the way along just to support her fellow Angel City teammate; Christen’s love for the American ladies remains eternal. Yet, the veteran couldn’t have made it obvious that she came just for Alyssa, thanks to all the glimpses of the matchday that Press shared on Instagram via a carousel post. Interestingly, she wasn’t alone, having arrived with her significant other Tobin Heath as well as pet dog Bob.

Likewise, joining the couple in the stands was also former USWNT defender Ali Krieger and her +1, Jen Beattie. But the click that stood out the most was where Christen was seen posing in the high stands of SoFI by donning a USWNT jersey with her baggy jeans and sunglasses. In fact, it was no ordinary jersey as the back of it carried the name “A. Thompson” alongside No. 11. Rest, the caption also did quite a job, as Press wrote, “Go Alyssa, Go Bob, Go team!”

Indeed, it was a big moment for Alyssa to receive such support from someone like Press, especially in an electrifying atmosphere that made the occasion even more special. The night also marked the first-ever women’s professional sporting event at the world-class SoFi Stadium, which featured a new grass system currently being tested ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Than again, one also can’t deny how much she had to endure just to make it to the game. Precisely, it’s the drive from LA to Inglewood that took a toll. This explains why Press shared this same post on her story writing, “2 hours on the 405 from training to watch the USWNT at SoFi!”

No wonder it saw Thompson extend her heartfelt gratitude to Press for her long road trip by car. The ACFC youngster took to comments and wrote, “Thank you for surviving that LA traffic🫠.” Additionally, to hail her domestic team’s veteran, Alyssa also praised the clicks that Christen shared with her pet dog by commenting, “You and Bobbi look perf together.”

Either way, it is indeed quite a heartwarming gesture from Christen Press for her fellow NWSL teammate. On the other hand, this is the least that the former USA international could have done, considering how well Thompson was during the game!

Alyssa Thompson was a true winner during USWNT vs Brazil

Being an LA native, it seems Alyssa’s home turf advantage turned out to be quite favorable for her. The forward was lethal throughout the hour mark she spent on the pitch, making brilliant dribbles and keeping the Brazilian defense on their toes. This was evident from the start of the game. Within five minutes, she received a ball on the left wing, making a central dribble.

Fortunately, the Angel City star spotted Trinity Rodman in the mix around the box, playing a cheeky pass in the Washington Spirit forward’s favor. The end result was a goal from the daughter of Dennis Rodman, who finally scored for the first time for the USWNT since the Summer Games. Though Alyssa didn’t find the net as the second strike was a 66th-minute penalty from Lindsey Heaps, she eventually found a way to impress.

“I mean, I love playing in LA,” the 20-year-old said post-match, as compiled by Goal. “Being here is amazing for club, and I’ve never played here [SoFi] or played in LA with the national team. So being able to just feel that comfort from my city and my family and friends, like I just felt like I could be more like me and like I knew what I could do.”

The rest of the match was a sheer display of not just attacking prowess, but even taking part in defensive duties. Perhaps one could say it was also the luck that Alyssa Thompson got from the support of someone like Christen Press.
